Sharing some good news

It has always been my dream to be able to teach. During COVID years, I had finished a Certificate that would allow me to teach English overseas.. but after COVID, I struggled financially, and couldn't afford traveling to teach. But teaching, had been one of my lifelong dreams since I was young.

A couple of months ago, one of my Supervisors at my current career (my department has 2 supervisors, one in the morning, one in the evening), came to me and said Management wants to appoint me to be a Clinical Instructor for our worksite. A bit of a background in the work I do, I'm a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician. In other words, I work in the hospital, and our department is in charge of cleaning and preparing surgical instruments for surgical procedures in the operating room. (I believe I talked about this career in a post years ago).

I will officially have a group of students for the January term next year, as this current Fall term, there are no students wanting to do their clinical practice at my hospital. Early last week, the college (where the students are taking the Certificate Program from), the Program Coordinator emailed me suddenly, and asked if I was available to assist in 4 classes over the weekends, as the students learn and practice some hands-on techniques. I agreed, and my hiring process was expedited. This past weekend, I really enjoyed it. Interacting with the students, teaching them the techniques, answering their questions. The Certificate Program is 4 months long. With the first month, learning about the Theory, then, have 3 months of Clinical, meaning the students are assigned to the hospital of their choice (or if they don't have a preference, randomly choose a site for them), where a Clinical Instructor will teach them. 

This past Sunday, the Theory Instructor gave them a group activity towards the end of the class, as they worked on the answers, the Theory Instructor showed me the teaching package. There was another Clinical Instructor that joined the class, to provide assistance too. The class has 39 students, so, the Theory Instructor had asked the College if other Clinical Instructors can provide assistant over the weekends, as setting up stations will be easier with more help. 

I'm hoping to do some weekends in the January term, that way, I could meet my 6 students ahead of the time before the Clinical starts.

Although my initial dream was to teach English overseas (choosing a country I want to travel to), teaching in a career that I'm passionate about, I think is an even better opportunity for me to grow. It really makes a difference when the Management team trusts me and feels I can do this job well. I'm so glad I left my older hospital and applied to the current hospital. I only started working here in May this year, so, it really came to my surprise when the Supervisor said she wanted to appoint me to the College to work as a Clinical Instructor less than 3 months time at this new hospital. 

This is a great opportunity for me, so I took it. What more can I ask for, being able to teach is one of my dreams, to be able to teach in a career I have passion for is a bonus. I can't wait to step into this new role in the New Year!
