Work & Career Check in *Aug 12 - 25*
Hi Everyone,
I hope your weekend is going well. I'd love to have you join me in checking in and sharing over the next two weeks in this thread about how you are doing and any goals that you are currently working on. You can call me Kristen.
I'd also love to hear what kind of topics and resources you'd like to see here. Join me in answering the following questions!
Personally, I'm working on increasing my certifications so I can increase my skills in my career. I love helping individuals find ways to reduce stress while finding out what they love to do with their jobs or what they might like to do if not sure. I'd love to support you here!
If you'd like to be notified when we post check-in threads or other important announcements, you can request to be added to our tag list or to be removed from our tag list in this thread.

I am not currently working on anything in my work or career related to trainings or other job "things". I am honestly just trying to make it to retirement.

I came to 7cups for help with ideas for work stress and burnout. I would like to see some more ideas and coping mechanisms for both. And what one can do when all the "regular" options don't seem to be working. I have found some helpful ideas in the forums. I use them a lot. I have read some things in forums where people were stressed out and looking for another job, or leaving the one they are in, but that is not an option for me. I'm 51 years old, work in a correctional facility, and been doing this type of work since 1997. Great pay, great benefits, great retirement package....last year I was so burned out I was ready to throw it all way...I think I've just been doing it too long. I can retire in Jan of 2027. 3 years and 4 months....Just trying to make it to the end right now.....7cups has been helpful and I'm looking forward to this forum. I'm also hoping by participating, I can help someone else before they get to the point where I am at.

So glad you are posting. I've been told by a couple people who are in the correctional system that it can be very difficult because for them it was high stress and long hours, and for the one who worked in a prison, where there were issues and a lock down, they couldn't leave until things settled. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to deal with everything that you have to deal with.
Congratulations on being so close to retirement. I'm sure you've had to experience a multitude of things.
We can definitely look into pulling resources on the burnout, coping and regeneration related to job stress, as well as other potential resources related to hanging in there until retirement or a new position opens up for those who are looking to change positions.
Thanks for posting and sharing how we can bring more to our community.
Did this work and career check in thread fizzle out? I think many could benefit from this if we could get the word out. Just wondering?
