I have done a few posts about my job, and this is another one. I guess I'm mainly looking for suggestions on how to wade through everything or perhaps empathy from someone who has been though what I have to deal with or is going through what I have to deal with.

I don't know if this is localized to the company I'm currently with or the field. I was with another company before I got this job but in a different department. Both were hotels. But currently, the management and supervisors seem to expect us to be some sort of organic computing machines.

Me, I have to look at least 130 reports a day, get all my monthly reports and daily assignments completed in a timely manner and do it without any errors. My monthly reports generally encompass ten to eleven states and I don't know how many customers are on each report until I open them. This month, I have more because we lost an employee.

I also normally have 8+ file folders open and the customer data is in five different places. I also have to deal with applications not working correctly and keep applications that I don't use constantly active (which doesn't make sense). I also have to get customers' background reports done in a timely manner and ignore the fact that I have to wait for the service we use to complete the search.

A few other co-workers have given up saying anything in meetings because nothing seems to get done. I am in the same boat as well. I have mentioned numerous times that there needs to be a consistent way of filing things (& speaking of files, they now want four copies of the customer background data. One copy in the folder for the monthly report, one copy in the main customer folder, and two copies separated by the type of report that was run. The supervisors even admitted that it was redundant, but they want it done.)

As I said, I'm not the only one who feels the pressure. There is an undercurrent, and it seems that it is something that is either getting overlooked or ignored. I don't know if this sort of thing is common to the field or maybe a byproduct of a corporate environment. But I have worked for corporations before and I've never experienced anything like this.

Each day I try to do my best but it's not good enough. No matter what I do, I always seem to get criticized for something else and I can't exactly express this frustration because then I'm seen as argumentative or negative. I once asked: "What did I do wrong now?" after a succession of criticisms and that got me labelled as negative. This is exactly why I don't say anything to anyone anymore with the exception of one coworker who feels the same way as I do and even then, I try not to say too much because things have gotten back to management and spun the wrong way. Ironically, I was accused of starting rumors once yet the people who whisper things to management don't get into trouble. Supervisors can chat amongst themselves for thirty to forty minutes and yet these are the same people who get mad at me when I'm not on top of all the reports they expect me to run.

I had today off because of a doctor appointment but I'm sure there will be an email about me not completing a form that we now have to fill out after a customer review. I spent yesterday trying to get caught up on my daily reports because I figured I'd get in trouble for being three days behind on them.

I suppose I wouldn't mind so much if there was some sort of recognition. Yes, I recently received a bonus but that doesn't really lessen all that I have endured for the past couple of years. Sure, there's an email every so often sent out to the department stating they appreciate us but the constant picking and criticising cheapens the expression of gratitude that gets sent out.

@Enthenia Thank you Enthenia for opening up and sharing your experiences with us. It takes courage to open up about these emotions and experiences. I appreciate your efforts. <3 It sounds like you're experiencing a lot of stress and frustration at work due to high expectations and criticism. It must feel demotivating to receive little recognition despite your efforts. Maybe you find it helpful to set clear boundaries and communicate your needs to your colleagues and superiors. Also please know taking care of yourself is important too. You deserve all support and help. Have you considered talking to your supervisor or HR about these issues?

@ASilentObserver This is one of the few places I can actually say anything without worrying about retribution. Yesterday, I mentioned a few things to one of the people who is frustrated as well in the break room and in the midst of it, one of the supervisors came in to get water the water dispenser was behind me so I didn't see him until after the fact but now I'm worried that what was overheard will be brought up by management out of context if and when I get in trouble again.

It happened once so it can happen again. I should have just kept my mind a blank and worked as mechanically as possible.

As for speaking up/out, there is an open door policy but it isn't exactly used or encouraged. I mean, people have brought things up before and they have been acknowledged then discarded.

I just try to get through each day with as little fuss as possible so I can get home to take the dog out.
