Work/Life

I work at a upscale company, and the people I work with are socially active, and always have plans going on or getting together. I got this job actually hoping I can make some friends, but my co-workers are kind of cliquey and already have there own group established. One minute they will be all friendly and acknowledge me and the next it’s like they barely want anything to do with me. Which kinda stinks. Anyway whatever I try to focus on I’m here to do a job not necessarily make friends, but my boss just asked if I had any Halloween plans, and of course my own social life is non existent which I’m okay with that but that’s the problem it’s awkward when I asked what I did over the weekend and I’m just a homebody who likes to watch tv and be at home, and these ppl are always always doing something. I feel like I could lose my job because I’m so lame and it just looks bad for my reputation. Silly I know but I feel like I don’t fit there “standards” prob just overthinking all of this lol

@Mre605 You could lose your job because you have no Halloween plans? Make some up if your workplace is shallow af.

It’s more I feel like because I never have much of a life, and these ppl are always active doing something or going somewhere, and I feel like it just makes me look like I’m a weirdo who doesn’t do anything and have friends. It’s a more insecure thing where I feel like If I don’t live up to there expectations of how I should be or act like them they will just get rid of me. I mean I could start making stuff up but I don’t like that.

@Mre605 Yeah, I get that, I wouldn’t want to make things up either. Not knowing your profession, I didn’t know what might be expected of you. Maybe work toward feeling ok about yourself no matter how you spend your time. People have lots of variations in how much they socialize, etc. I bet there might be a few people at work who force themselves into a busy social life so they “look good” when they might just want to stay home. When we do the external comparison with others we are not really comparing against good data.

I dont think youre overthinking things. It can be tough being the new person. Look for common interests maybe
