Tips for getting into graphic design (as a hobby or otherwise)?
Hey all,
So besides occasionally messing around on MSPaint as a kid, I've never really gotten into art that much. But recently, I discovered that I have at least a *bit* of a passion for it, especially creating graphic art on the computer.
At any rate, I was wondering if any of you had any tips for getting into graphic design on the computer--even just as a hobby that I'd do in my spare time. :)
Do you mean graphic design for job purposes or just for fun?

To start with, definitely just for fun. I would need to see if I felt like I had the talent to turn it into a side-gig and I would need to see if I even just had the baseline level of interest to be persistent enough to keep at it.
@sereneSunset26 There are many YouTube videos that would be super helpful. I know people who completely picked up graphic design from YouTube.

It's funny because when I first got into audio engineering I was completely self-taught via YouTube. And even though it is just a side-gig, what I learned on YouTube basically allowed me to gain the knowledge to mix two different song recordings for two different bands. :)

I'm happy to read that you're interested in graphic design. There are many software that are common to use in the field. From basic to advance. One of the most common is Adobe Illustrator.
But as a start, you can use some practical graphic design platform such as Canva or Adobe Spark. If you want, you're welcome to apply for CDM program. We have some parts on CDM where we exercise a simple and basic graphic design like this one here

As for the tips:
- Graphic design skill and creativity need a regular exercise. Just like we get better in active listening by hours of listening, so is graphic design skill.
- Here are some basic design principles: balance, hierarchy, repetition, unity, harmony.
- White space can strengthen the overall design.

Thank you so much for all the information along with the tips. I've definitely heard of Adobe Illustrator and it seems like a good place to start as any.
And I for sure know what you mean in regards to practice and being persistent with it. I know that I'm not going to get anywhere with this unless I put in the time and work. :)

For design i use adobe indesign. You need to pay for it tho. but for making posters things like that it’s awesome and easy to use. Adam.
