Exchange Students

Have you ever had a classmate who suddenly ‘disappeared for a certain period who apparently went abroad out of nowhere. Or maybe you are that one person who went abroad? Ever thought of wanting to have a ‘break, learn a new culture and language, or just travel withouth having to worry too much about your school/college? Well if the answer is yes, then becoming an exchange student is the option!

What is an exchange student?

An exchange student is someone who joined a student exchange program to go study abroad for a certain period. Usually from 1 week up to 1 y e a r! ( school/college students)

Why should I go on exchange ?

Well, I can make a whole list for that! But lets point out the obvious.
- You get to learn about a new culture and language
- You get to travel a bit
- You meet new people
- You get experiences not everybody will have
- You will have a new family
- You will have a new place you can call home
- You will have friends from all over the world
And many more!

But did you know, that when you go on exchange, you also change yourself? ( A good change may I add )

How so?
Well usually, you will be put in a situation you have never been before. Because of this, you are forced to become more open-minded. You try to see things from different perspectives, you try to find a solution, and you become more understanding.You wont really realize you do it, but it does happen. A big self development.

Another thing is that you will become more independent. As you live far away from home, know nobody, are surrounded by strangers, you will do things on your own. Like maybe you are used to your mom making up your bed for you, this time you need to do it yourself. Or now you do the laundry yourself! Small changes like this apparently leave a huge impact.

You also become more social. As human beings, we try to find people we feel comfortable with. In this case, you will try to find and approach other exchangers and communicate with them as they would know and understand your situation the best. This is a huge thing for someone who is not very socialable... ( talking about experience eh? )

How can I become an exchange student?

To become an exchange student is pretty easy, you just have to find an exchange program in your country. Every program has a different vision and mission, different goals, different periods. Try to find one that matches you the best.
