Can you give me advice?
"Advice is really easy to give, but it can sometimes be wrong or even harmful. I don't have full understanding of your life or world. Any advice I'd give you would be limited and potentially wrong. You are the expert on you. The best thing I can do for you is to help you figure out the path that makes the most sense to you."
Most seem to agree that this approach makes sense.
Once they've agreed with you, then you can begin to help them explore their options. You might say: What is one option? What are the positives and negatives about that option? What is another option? What are the pro's and con's of that option. What option do you think makes the most sense for you?
Another good idea is to ask them what they'd tell a friend if they were in the same position. Sometimes it is hard for us to see our own lives objectively, but very easy to see another person's life objectively. If you imagine them stepping outside of themselves and looking at themselves as another person, then that can help them see things more clearly.
