Black man in America
The burden of having to think 3 steps ahead of most situations on a daily basis because Im a black man in this country gets burdensome. Shopping when Im the only customer or one of the few customers in a store makes me feel like I dont want to be in there too long. Elevators and parking lots are not fun. Seeing people see you, then all of a sudden remember that they need to lock their doors 2,3,or 4 times gets old. Like, Im sure your doors are locked now maam. Im a pretty successful business owner and live well, but by their assumptive reactions, hell, I cant tell.
@Kj81 Hi there, thank you so much for your post. Yes, stereotypes are so automatic unfortunately that they play a heavy role in making assumptions and first impressions with people. I'm sorry to hear of your experieces. We are here to support you! I really appreciate you opening up to us and for staying strong.

I echo at @lovelyWhisper66 's thoughts. Also, dealing with overt and covert racism, prejudice and discrimination can be exhausting. Often times I find myself feeling bad for people who chose to live their life treating others differently because they are missing out on getting to know great people in this world. However, I have learned that there will be days where I will be exhausted from combating racism, prejudice, microaggressions and the list goes on. Nevertheless, it is important to share my experiences with others to provide support, receive support and share how I cope with these things day to day. Thanks again for sharing.

I understand where you are coming from. As a black women I get attitude shifts when I come around people who are not black too. I feel like there is a defense that goes up when people see black women because we are supposed to have an attitude or be loud, confrontational, or just ghetto. When I went to college I started to limit how proud I was to be black so that those defenses other people put up wouldn't hurt so bad. But it didn't last, lol. And I embraced and accepted myself again. It can get hard though, if the defenses get too bad I usually block them out and continue doing what I need to do. Ingore the person, the feelings and practice mindfulness in the task.

Never understood the ignorant stereotypes that goes on in America (and many other places unfortunetly).
Keep safe and remember that what they say are exactly that, stereotypes. There's many fantastic black men and women in this world. Remember that your skin colour is beautiful and that you're special.
Sending much love all the way from Portugal

Im very sorry, but you are just as equal as everybody else in the country. The only things keeping blacks from whites are life choices, and same goes for whites. There is no need for people of color feed, we are ALL equal and people have made that clear. Youre playing the victim. What about Oprah Winfrey? Shes BLACK, and one of the richest women in the world! That alone tells you right there that this is all bogus...there is no need for it. Im biracial(black and white), for I am of color. How come I see this and you do not??
