Minority Mental Health Awareness Month
Hello community,
❒ July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. July was designated as Minority Mental Health Awareness Month in 2008, to bring awareness to the unique struggles that underrepresented groups encounter, in regard to mental illness.
❒ Anyone can experience the challenges of mental health issues, irrespective of their background. However, culture, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation can make access to mental health treatment much more difficult.
When trying to access treatment, these communities have to contend with:
❒ Language barriers
❒ A culturally insensitive system
❒ Lower quality care
❒ Lower chance of health care coverage
❒ Stigma from several angles
❒ Racism, bias and discrimination in treatment settings

Minority Mental Health Awareness Month is an opportunity for us to raise awareness and stop stigma in diverse communities. Please help us with spreading the word. We encourage you all to use feed posts in an effort to raise awareness.
Please use the following hashtags:
#BreakTheStigma #MinorityMentalHealth #PeopleofColor #POC #YPOC
Please feel free to post your thoughts and feelings about or experiences with mental illness- know that you are not alone. We are here to listen and lend our support.

Thank you for this post
I know there is still a lot of stigma in communites of color to seek out help for any mental illness.
I hope we can get to a point where this is not so.
Until then we can keep educating people that there is no shame in getting help
