Nature of the Real

1. We apprehend truth intimately in our hearts

– not through knowledge, but through recognition. That is what we call the real.

2. The most familiar is not always the most real; but that person is real for me whom I may not know well, but whom I cannot help acknowledging as a positive presence.

3. Let science and history call them false; the innermost feeling of the human heart finds them true.

The apprehension of this truth gives us joy, and joy is its ultimate value.

4. The provable is easily proved; the joyous is hard to express.
