Sumitra Nandan Pant | Jewels of Indian Literature

Sumitranandan Pant was one of the most celebrated 20th century poets of the Hindi language.

हिंदी हमारे राष्ट्र की अभिव्यक्ति का सरलतम स्रोत है।

(Hindi is the simplest source of India's identity.)

यदि स्वर्ग कही है पृथ्वी पर, तो वह नारी उर के भीतर;
मादकता जग में अगर कहीं, वह नारी अधरों में डूबकर;
यदि कहीं नरक है इस भू पर, तो वह भी नारी के अंदर।

(If there is any heaven on earth, it is inside the female. If there is drunkenness anywhere, it leaks from woman's lips. If there is any hell on earth, that too is inside the female.)

ज्ञानी बनकर मत नीरस उपदेश दीजिए।
लोक कर्म भाव सत्य प्रथम सत्कर्म कीजिए।

(Pretend not to be a learned and give tasteless lectures. First do good deeds inspired by compassion for all.)
