The Worst Question in the World?

Someone asked me a question yesterday that nearly destroyed me.

"What do you do"

Ugh! Is there anything more horrible then being suddenly thrust into the intolerable stench of such an unimaginative question, without so much as a dewdrop of courtesy or tact?

In lieu of simply screaming on the top of one's lungs until passing out or going into a full-on Furiosa vengeance-fueled rampage (And possibly breaking a nail.), consider these responses first:

  • I'm an explorer.
  • What don't I do? (Or any other question-answer switcheroo.)
  • I fight intergalactic crime *pew pew noises*
  • Mostly become easily distracted by dogs/cats.
  • Wish upon a star. (For Disney fans.)
  • *Silence* *chirping crickets*

Any of these could be enough to allow either the offender enough grace and space remember how offensive this question is at the best of times or the offendee enough time and patience to move on to another room, planet or dimension.

Also not sure what spirituality one practices, but setting up and enacting energetic shields, cleanses and blocks against such people also works, as does smudging ones home and self with any kind of incense or sage.

Furthermore, dressing in the colours and utilizing the stones and practices in ayurveda that correspond to the weekday encourages and supports ones highest potential. See my post on that in Art and Crafts.

Ultimately we may not want to 'be the change' or 'turn the other cheek' or 'take the lead' but in the end, peace of mind matters more than letting poor or ignorant behaviour ruin it, doesn't it?

@communicativePond1728 Lord have mercy this is the Arts and Crafts forum...

Oh well..I'll just carry on with the Ayurvedic post. *SoLuTiOnS*

Here's the necklace I made yesterday to honor Mars in all its fiery, Aries, red glory. The stone is petrified coral, which I bought during my ADVENTure in December (Which is also randomly posted in Arts and Crafts somewhere, unless things are deleted after a certain time period...)...

But long story short is I couldn't afford the stone, which I promised myself and the shop owner I would repurchase, which I did for this week's Ayurvedic edition, and then wove in great triumphant retribution. (Doubly so as it wasn't where I found it in the store last time and took all my detective skills and two staff members to locate.)

Today the colour is green, and because I've also been gifted green chord I'll be making one of those today. Maybe. Either that or washing my green dress. Or neither, as today is all about self care and wellbeing for me, not chores and the like. But probably I'll do both because what the heck else am I going to do? Just not pursue my highest potential?

If you consider the question offensive, okay... Yes, it's unimaginative. Most people are, which is why we creative folk have always been in the minority, though there are more of us now than at any time in history. It's a stock question for making small talk.

Whenever someone asks me that, I usually answer one of the following:

  • I'm semi-retired.
  • I do many things. Most of them predate the 20th century.
  • I do a few different things. Why, do you have a commission for me? [I don't use this answer much anymore. See the 1st one]
  • Anything that's legal & doesn't involve heavy lifting.
  • All kinds of stuff. Why, what do you need?...If it's illegal then I'll have to charge you enough to cover legal fees.
