Check-in - Depression Support - July 9 & 10, 2022

Another weekend, another opportunity to reflect on the past week, and how it went for our emotional health. Also, what we wish for this weekend.
Sp this check-in questions are:
How have you been feeling these days?
How was your week overall?
Which were the brightest moments in your week?
Which were not-so-bright moments?
What do you wish to achieve this weekend?
All questions are optional. You can add any comments you wish, as they come to your mind.
I look forward to your answers!

I’m not doing good. Been extremely depressed and I feel like I’m at my breaking point right now.
@fairmindedFriend3493
I am very sorry you have been feeling so bad.
It is awful to be in one of those times when everything seems so bleak and you can't see the light at the end of a very long dark tunnel.
Has anything happened recently that triggered such a breakdown of your mood?
In the short run, try to be around people, visit a friend or family. Try to distract yourself by watching movies or series. Indulge in some small gratifying things. Go for a long walk. Exercise improves our mood.
Keep participating in 7 Cups, like attending Sharing Circles and other group support chats. As well as one-to-one chats.
This is the 7 Cups agenda of upcoming support group chats: https://www.7cups.com/home/communityCalendar.php
If you have a peak of feeling very bad, in my experience a good resource are the emotional support hotlines. They don't deal only with the most extreme cases, but will support you by talking on the phone, which could be more effective than text chat. They are nice, caring people. This is the phone number for the United States: 1-800-273-TALK(8255) Here there is a directory of phone hotlines all around the world: (click HERE)
In the medium term, you should get a consultation as soon as possible with your psychiatrist to adjust the medication, even temporarily.
I hope you find some moments of peace during this Sunday and the next days.
And don't hesitate to come back here by replying to this post.
I wish you all the best.
Marcelo.
@HealingTalk. I didn’t feel so well physically (due to chronic illness), but mentally I felt alright thankfully 😅. My brightest moments were attending a zoom class and getting out to my local library. Of course coming here to 7cups are bright moments too. Not so bright moments were feeling unwell and not being able to do some things that I wanted to. I achieved one goal of starting to read the book from the library. I would like to start translating a story that I wrote in English to Spanish for my class. My fingers are crossed 🤞 for that one!
@adventurousBranch3786
Hello Branch!
How wonderful that you came here!
So glad to see you!
It's commendable that you can stay in such a good mood, and so active, even with the burden of a chronic affliction.
You seem very enthusiastic by finding and pursuing new initiatives, exploring all the many feasible interesting activities within your reach.
Congratulations!
Some things are out of reach for all of us, for one reason or another. But there are so many good things that we can do!
Maybe it's very extreme, but when I feel too constrained, I think of Hellen Keller and Stephen Hawkins as role models of great fulfilling lives lived within tough constraints. They are a great inspiration to me.
Visiting regularly and reading books from the library is a wonderful habit to cultivate. There is something special about libraries, certain romanticism, an inspiring environment, like a sanctuary of books. And makes you feel part of a community of readers, which is nice and encouraging.
What an amazing challenge, so in accordance with your adventurous nature, to translate to Spanish your own story (how great that you write stories, by the way!)
Congratulations and all the luck with this wonderful project!
As helping tools if you get stuck at some point, I have found that Reverso (reverso.net) and Google Translate (translate.google.com) produce good translations, that might be fine-tuned later to your literary style.
There are also grammar correctors in Spanish (similar to Grammarly but not as good) that could be of help.
The ones I know are lorcaeditor.com languagetool.org abccorrector.com and correctoronline.es You might play with some of those to see if they are useful to you.
Thank you, Branch for coming here to check-in!
I wish to see you again soon.
All the best!
Marcelo.
@HealingTalk. Thanks for the links to language translation. I hadn’t thought of that!
I don’t know what I am right now. But I don’t even feel alive. I don’t see a reason to be that way. Inside I’m just a shell of misery and depression. My treatment isn’t helping after changing it four times and giving my medication plenty of time every time we change it.
I had a break down where I was screaming and punching holes in my wall. I dislocated one of my fingers by punching a beam. I hate being alive. Nothing ever changes no matter what I do. It’s always the same garbage. Everyone says it’ll improve and nobody ever says a word when they see it hasn’t gotten better at all. I hate life. I hate everything.
@Server8462
Hello Server!
Thank you for checking in again!
I remember how tough these times have been for you.
And the episode of hurting your hands by punching the wall.
You are right that severe depression might have no evident reason, not a cause at sight, and be very resistant to treatment.
Like people with severe physical disabilities, that carry their lives, doing what is feasible for them, without expecting their disabilities to be reversed. Some might even have productive lives, despite their limitations.
I remember losing your job and not finding one, in these difficult economic times, plus the social anxiety that you feel prevents you from working effectively, which had a big impact on your mood.
Social anxiety can be cured with appropriate treatment, and you might become much more effective at work next time.
Improving your capabilities to connect with people could also help a lot in coping with depression. Depression is in great part a condition that isolates us, and that isolation feeds back depression, in a nasty loop.
Your anger and frustration are understandable and well-founded.
You might take a break for a while from fighting this battle. Let things be as they are, with no expectations.
No measure of what would be feeling "right" or what is "wrong".
Just carry on, as things come.
There will be better times.
I wish you all the best.
See you soon.
Marcelo.
I know how hard it is for you. Sending peace. @Server8462
