Check-in for June 13 - Depression Support
Hello, fellow life travelers of the Depression Support Subcomunnity!
As has been said, I think that weekends are when we have more free time so we can more genuinely express ourselves, and be more aware of where we stand in terms of wellbeing.
So now might be a good opportunity to reflect on the past weekend and what it tells us about our current state of emotional health.
Here are this today's check-in questions:
- How have you been feeling these days?
- How was your weekend, overall?
- Which were your best times this weekend? How did you feel about them?
- Which were not-so-good times? How did you feel?
All questions are optional. You can add any comments you wish, as they come to your mind.
I look forward to your answers!

How have you been feeling these days?
Ups and downs, really. Stuck with some bad memories but nothing new in that.
How was your weekend, overall?
It was actually pretty nice. My partner surprised me by booking a couple nights at a hotel. We didn't do much, just stuck around in our room, went for some food now and then and just talked mainly. But it was nice.
Which were your best times this weekend? How did you feel about them?
Spending time with my partner alone. We've had some rough times lately because all the crap going on, so it was nice to just chill and spend time together. Get out of normal routines and all that. So I felt good through most of it.
Which were not-so-good times? How did you feel?
Having a persistent backache that kept us still mostly, and getting a migraine Sunday morning. Nothing I'm not used to, so no feelings involved, really.

Thank you for checking in!
I am glad that you are going through a relatively good time in your life.
You seem to have a wonderful partner.
It is exceptional that someone arranges by surprise for a hotel stay.
I am happy that it went so peacefully and soothing.
Simple things are the best.
And that you have the capacity to enjoy those simple things speaks a lot about your emotional health.
Congratulations on that!
As you say, breaking routines, seeing your partner with renewed eyes, as a person and not as a problem, is very healthy for the relationship and for both of you.
It's a great relationship, so doing "regular maintenance" to keep it strong is good policy.
I wish your bodily pains stay under control. You seem to be skillful at that.
And you avoid wisely the "second arrow"...
All the best!
See you soon!
@HealingTalk
trying to collect myself after a huge setback. Struggling right now.
@scarletPear1945
Oh, I'm so sorry for that!
How sad!
What was the setback about? (if you wish to share)
I send you all my affection ❤️.
@HealingTalkMy therapist flipped the script on me and used the personal and traumatic episode to yell an obscene word at me. I thought I could trust her but it bite me in the but and I am just devastated by it. How or why she felt the need to do that I don't know. I am done with trying to reach out for help.
@scarletPear1945
Oh, how weird and sad!
Mental health professionals are humans that live under huge emotional stress all their lives.
Supposedly their training and practices should protect them from getting damaged by that, but some end up in a very bad place. Even a crazy place.
I am sorry that you had to experience this hurting act of madness from your now ex-therapist.
Someone you trusted with your deepest most guarded traumatic memories, and the deepest feelings in your soul.
It must be truly devastating, like a totally unexpected backstab out of nowhere, in a place you allow yourself to be most vulnerable.
You will find a good therapist in due time. This recent trauma will be one of the first things to talk, for sure.
I send you all my affection from here.
Thank you for sharing!
I am struggling because I just lost my third job since COVID! But this weekend and today I am rather pleased with myself for keeping myself moving. I did a few things around my home which is hard for me with depression. I do a little at a time. I did some self care as well. Drinking tea, watch a favorite show, skin care routine. I really enjoyed getting out with my daughter over the weekend. I applied to some jobs. I'm trying to be mindful of small pleasures and I'm taking life on in small bits. It is hard to be motivated when jobless.

Hi!
Thank you for checking in!
I am sorry you had such a bad experience with jobs during the Covid pandemic. Covid hit hard the economy and particularly the job market. Many businesses went broke, and many jobs were lost.
The human side of this tragedy is what you experienced: the sad circumstance of losing a job and being jobless.
You are right that being jobless is very demotivating. Our occupation is much more than a source of income. Society defines the value of people mostly according to their occupation. Being jobless affects much our sense of self-worth.
Even if we rationally know that we are much more than a job position, it's very difficult to escape such a strong cultural belief.
All this said, it's amazing how skillfully and wisely you manage your life, and take advantage of every opportunity to enjoy all the good things it offers you.
It would be great in an average situation, and amazing for someone struggling with depression.
But it is truly exceptional in the circumstances that you are.
You even recognize, rightly, that this is your achievement, which reinforces in turn even more, the good feelings from the wise things you do. And strengthens your sense of self-worth when it's most needed.
I admire you for all that. You should be very proud of yourself.
It's inspiring to meet someone who, struggling with depression and facing adversity, with effort to build motivation, does everything right, does a lot of healthy activities, and greatly benefits from that, enjoying the good things in their life.
Congratulations!
And thank you for sharing your very uplifting story!
I don’t know why I’m here. I think it’s because I want to live but don’t have anything left to hold onto. Why bother living? After losing my job and having to carry another failure on my back, I don’t see the point.
@Server8462
Hi!
Thank you for checking in!
It seems that you are experiencing a genuinely very frustrating and sad time in your life, on top of struggling with depression.
Your questions and concerns are profound and wise. Why we are here? What's our purpose in life?
I think there is no simple answer and none that could come from outside.
Being alive is an opportunity, that lasts for a limited time. It's up to each of us to decide what to do with it.
There are infinite possible answers. Appreciating love, nature, art, music, enjoying things, having fun, are among the most popular.
Endless possible answers...
Maybe you don't feel now in the right mood to answer these deep concerns, and would be better to wait until your life stabilizes after the tough shock you just received.
You could live your day-to-day life the best you can, continue hunting for a new job, and some day, the answers to these big questions might emerge naturally.
I wish you find some moments of peace and enjoyment during these tough times.
Thank you again for taking the time and effort to check-in. Highly appreciated!
All the best!
Marcelo.
I understand. I am going through a similar experience. I was just released from a psychiatric hospital for planning my suicide. I am so thankful I got help in time but out here in the real world my anxiety and depression are rapidly increasing. I really need someone to connect with.
I spent the weekend in a psychiatric hospital. It was a positive experience for me and I felt I got some real help, but I am already struggling out here in the real world. My depression level is rising higher and higher and I need to connect with someone who can help me.
