Should I ask for antidepressants?

I feel sad almost every day. Nothing bad needs to happen for me to feel sad. I don't want to be sad, but it's like I can't escape it. Sometimes I feel completely alone, and i cant bring myself to tell anyone. I went through a lot and I've been diagnosed with PTSD. I'm in therapy, but i just feel like it isnt enough. Being sad makes it so hard to just live. I feel like an actress going through the motions to keep other people from being concerned. I know that I can't shut down. I make myself get out of bed and function, but it's exhausting. I don't consider myself to be a danger to myself because I don't want to do anything drastic, but I think about it almost everyday. I just don't know if that warrants antidepressants? I just don't know how to be happy. I can have a good day but I'll still feel empty at the end of it. I dont remember a day where I didnt feel sad.. Does everyone feel sad every day? Am I just a wimp? I dont know what normal is.

@youremotionalsister If you have PTSD after going through a lot, and you're in therapy now, then I imagine that perhaps it might be reasonable for you to discuss antidepressants with your therapist. No one on the Internet can advise you about a thing like that.

Another thing to discuss with your therapist might be that feeling you have that therapy isn't enough, and the dark thoughts that you have almost every day. Experienced therapists have some very powerful techniques to help with PTSD, and they usually start to work pretty quickly. You might even have to discuss the possibility that your present therapist is not experienced enough.

Does everyone feel sad every day? No. It is normal to feel sad sometimes, but not every day for many days. Experienced therapists know how to help with this quickly and reliably.

Are you just a wimp? No. You came here to 7 Cups and asked good questions. These are steps on a path that will lead you to a happy life, if you can get effective professional help.

If you'd ever like to discuss these things in more detail, feel free to click on my profile picture and message me.

@youremotionalsister yes, PLEASE get medication, it will certainly affect your mood, try everything you can, no one deserves to be unhappy trust me man, just do anything- when even the good thoughts you make don't change your mood, that's a sign the situation progressed and you WILL need the artificial boost, that's my opinion

I would only suggest medication if your so edgy that you can stand it no longer. That life has become so hard that you cannot accomplish daily responsibilities. If nothing else works then you should maybe look into a psychiatrist.
