What do you hate about yourself?

Depression is bizarre in how in alters the way we think. We may know logically that it is our depression making us think this way but knowing that doesn't invalidate it. So write down what exactly you hate about yourself, let it all out. Once you do look back at what you wrote. Hopefully documenting your thought process will make it easier to work through your issues. Plus we will all be here to help.

I hate always thinking of death

-My body

-My eating habits

-How my mental illnesses affect my relationships with people and things, especially my friends and girlfriend

-The fact my mind is so sick (depression, social and general anxiety, insomnia and narcolepsy, some eating disorder im not sure what, and possibly mild bipolar)

-That I have so little energy

-That I'm slow to understand/get things

-That my family isn't in a good place financially

-That I have to hide my gender identity and religion from my family

-My voice sucks, I started singing really late (i'm 14 almost 15)

-My dancing sucks too, I started dancing really late too

-I can't seem to stop myself from disociating sometimes

-Things in general suck right now and I really want it to get better so I can be in a better place and better at singing and dancing and for my mom to believe in me and to finally be living out my dreams and love myself for once

@Stranger4122

I can understand exactly how you feel....about a month I opened my mouth and told my daughter things I'd been bottling up for longer than I care to remember..... it's only been recently that we have tentatively started talking. I hope this has taught me to say what's on my mind and not bottle things up.

That I still haven't found a way to end all the violence in the world.

that when i talk or try to support people, they think that i look at myself like some kind of prophet or all-wise messiah type. and any criticism or disappointment i have in anybody is met with simmering rage and retaliation/revenge. people are obsessed with making sure i feel stupid or like i'm not better than they are in anything, if i say something good about myself or i have a talent or an idea i'm excited to share, people get perturbed like i think i'm better than them or that i believe nobody else could possibly have that talent or be good or something. they just always think that i'm trying to be above them somehow, no matter what i do. and if i'm really struggling with something in my life, it's "everybody has problems, you're not the only one who cries. better educate yourself." it's so ridiculous

Forgive me, I don’t know exactly what to say since my case is almost opposite of yours. But if you don’t mind, I’d like to try to relate… I’m the smiling face with the jokes and the occasional wise words. I enjoy helping people who open up to me. But I tend to be seen as slow witted, even evil by some. When actually I’m very perceptive and have my own standards and morals. I have been constantly reminded that there are plenty others in the world who have things worse than my own past. Now I’ve come to stuffing down my own problems and ideas for the convenience of others.

So, for myself, I write everything down. If I want to advise or help another or myself. I write down how I feel and relate. I write down how I cope and how sometimes it’s too much. All my morals and standards. They’re neatly packed in envelopes for me to refer to. Although others never see my writing, I even took the time to make my own code because I’m paranoid. Lol. But writing it all down sometimes helps. It’s a silent way of crying, I guess. But when I'm in the right space, I remember also that:

Tears Never Fall In Vain.

Where do I start? I hate my low self esteem, my face, my weight,my voice, like literally I wish I was joking, I hate everything about myself and I hate that I hate myself, I want to be happy and like just live in peace. I feel like everyone hates me and that I'll always suffer. My dad didn't succeed in his life and I'm so so scared that I'll be like him in the future. So everything scares me and that's also what I hate about myself. I wish it would just stop

@Sebzkiw I can't say I know how you feel, because everyone experiences things differently, but I definitely relate to a lot of what you said. I can't convince you that you're beautiful, because I can't see you. But other's do. They see how you treat others and how you affect the world. They see your smile when your happy and laugh. They see the good things you do and so much more. It's really cliche, but the inside always shine through.

I've studied some psychology, and this is probably one of the best thing's I've learnt--beauty doesn't exist. It's a social concept that changes in different cultures. In some alternate universe, maybe purple skin is attractive. You see people with it in every movie, on every magazine cover, and described in every love song. Personally, I'm not very attracted to purple skin, but if that's what the world always told you was beautiful, I'd probably wish I had it.

Sorry, I kind of went out on a rant, but I hope this helps.

The thing I hate the most is probably..how I deceive myself and others for my own gain, procrastination and how I look..and my inability to be completely independent, sensitivity and such

@dworth257

I can relate to this, it's what I'm struggling with right now. Sometimes I even wonder if it's justifiable to be even more selfish since everyone's like that
