What do you hate about yourself?

User Profile: cosmicjellyfishqueen

Depression is bizarre in how in alters the way we think. We may know logically that it is our depression making us think this way but knowing that doesn't invalidate it. So write down what exactly you hate about yourself, let it all out. Once you do look back at what you wrote. Hopefully documenting your thought process will make it easier to work through your issues. Plus we will all be here to help.

I hate that i'm weak and always looking to make excuses for myself. I hate that i am unable to put others before myself all the time and i hate that i'm just not a good person.

@inventiveTiger8937 you're not a bad person for the simple reason that you we're able to admit you've done some bad things. A villian is really only a villian if they think their a hero. Admit you're faults actually shows you're a good person capable of growth.

My weight. My scars. My inability to be truthful with someone I used to love. My inability to trust my older sister around any guy I have any interest in.

I hate so much about myself.

@faefaerie93 It seems like you're feeling dissapointed in yourself for things that happened in your past. I comepletly understand. It's totally natural. And it's hard but acceptance is key. Things happened and maybe you did something you're not proud of but that okay. The past is gone and cannot harm you and while the future is fast coming it always flinchest first and settles as the gentle present. This here this now, we can cope with that. Don't let the mistakes of you're past dictate your future. You still have time to change and grow and be better.

Sending you lots of love.

I honestly hate everything about myself. People complement me at time but I know it's not true. They pity me. When I look in the mirror I try and think of what others must be thinking when they see me. They're not pleasant thoughts.

@Rachelhogin You don't know for certain those people aren't telling the truth. What reason would they have to lie? What do they gain? Don't prematurely write people off as bad. The majority of people actually do care about you and want you to be happy.

Heh, where do I start? I guess I hate that I don't have the patience I should as a parent. I can put on my persona at work in front of my coworkers, but by the time I get home I just can't do it anymore. The littlest things just get under my skin and it's all I can do to not shout at everyone in the house (and sometimes I fail).

All I really want to do sometimes is just barricade myself away from the cooking and the cleaning and the "Daddy can I"s and the "Honey can you"s. That makes me feel so selfish, and that's another thing I hate about myself.

@DistressedDad I'm not a parent but I will say this as the child of a single parent: parenting is hard. It's so incredibly hard and I don't blame my mom for getting stressed out because I know that she tried. Even on the bad days my mom always tried. And I think that's the most important thing you can do as a parent just try your best. No one is going to hold it against you for being overwhelmed because most people understand that it is hard.

I hope you can find someone here who can help you work through what is sure to be a difficult and stressful time for you.

@cosmicjellyfishqueen

Thank you for the kind words. My wife is often telling me those kinds of things when I tell her I feel like a failure, but they never really seem to sink in. I know I'm supposed to go easier on myself, but I've never been able to do that, as far back as I can remember. What I'm really worried about is that the people I care about will get tired of hearing me whine about it, or of seeing how it affects my outward moods, and decide to just be done with me.

Sometimes I feel like that would be just what I deserve.

@DistressedDad Perhaps you should put a bit more faith in your family and friends. They love you even on the bad days. You wouldn't just walk away from your children if they were having a rough time would you? Of course not. Because when we love people we don't just quit on them we do our best to help them. I think the people around you truly do want the best for you.

I was going to say "I hate I am lazy".

But I am not lazy: I struggle to take action when it involves doing something new in an uncertain situation where there is risk to lose. I feel exposed in such situations. I struggle to take action when I feel vulnerable.

My usual reaction was to "imagine what could go wrong if i... " thus I would feel anxious, afraid, and an impostor.

Now when I take action and feel vulnerable I don't hate myself. I calm myself, I am loving-kind to myself, I remind myself to trust, and dare greatly. I am now practicing visualization and optimism.

I still frustrate and have a hard time recovering from losses, but unlike before I am experimenting now.

@Nurakit Well that's just unreasonable. Everyone's got some good qualities and some bad. I understand like you maybe feeling like there is nothing good about yourself but that's just not true. There is bound to be so much to love about you. You just have to try and find it.

I hate just about everything about myself. The way I look, the way I talk, I'm in the wrong body, I'm not good at anything, I do poorly in school, and it's nearly impossible for me to look positively about myself.

@AshaCeleste The problems listened are not nearly as bad as you may believe. Someone out there loves your voice and body even if you may hate it. You're doing poorly in school? Ask questions about the material or go to tutoring, teacher will be happy to help as they want you to suceed. And nobody is born talented so don't feel bad if you suck at something . If it something you enjoy doing keep doing it! I understand you may feel a bit paralyzed but taking small steps like this is bound to help your confidence and self esteem.

Wishing you a happy and sucessful life!
