2025
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!!!! 🎆🥂🎁❤️
Prayers and prayers. May this year be bigger, brighter and blissful. May we all be safe, and happier.
Amen.
Much better job with how you started. You got the haircut, so good job. That is indeed a victory. You need to count it as such. You said that artwork and getting outside are triggering. Do them anyway. They don't have to feel good the entire time that you are doing them. You are looking for 10-15 minutes. That's it. Keep things as simple as you can but develop a routine. You are starting to do just that. Start out all your messages this way.
And you have decided on your three courses - excellent! Now you just have to keep up with those three. Are you done with your holidays yet? No thinking long term okay? We are just going to worry about daily assignments, not how many units they are or how long they might take. Do you have all of your materials to begin?
Tonight I leave you with an inspirational quote: "A common misconception is that you need to feel good to get going, but it is often the other way around. You need to get going in order to give yourself a chance at feeling good....This is why it is so important to just get started on things that matter to you and give yourself a chance." Brad Stulberg
Sending lots of hugs and peace. You can do this. It is one day at a time.
Sending another quote this evening: "You are not a drop in the entire ocean; you are the entire ocean inside a drop. Uniquely made, there is only one you. Love yourself. Don't give up--do your thing."
Thank you Dawn for always keeping me in your mind. My classes for Psychology and Business start from July5th. I'm continuing my English Language class with an online tutor. It feels overwhelming. Dawn, I am constantly hearing about how hard A-levels are and they get D-s and it impacts me. I feel scared. A-levels successful completion will open so many doors for me but they would be stressful. Am I doing the right thing by doing alevels? I feel scared. You can check out a post of mine. https://www.7cups.com/forum/generalsupport/General_2440/Feelinghopeless_356363/
I am going to focus on what you are saying here, but you got lots of good support on that other thread. Now you just need to listen to it, okay?
This is all going to work out, but let's continue to try to focus here. You need to start out your messages with what I asked you to do in order to retrain your brain: what exactly are you doing in the present in terms of self-care and study? NO THINKING ABOUT THE PAST OR WORRYING ABOUT THE FUTURE. Live in the present.
So right now it is just the English, correct? What kinds of things are you studying? Do they make sense to you? What does your day look like in terms of what you learn? How are you taking breaks? Are you getting outside or making some jewelry? No need to think about psychology or business until July. I am glad that you have started the English. You are embarking on the journey. Good job!
@querencia798
so my indian friend connected me to some therapy groups and im doing sessions with 2 therapists (i'm exploring them and ill choose one soon). that itself is a form of self care, i think. i do try to get out but it's so hot i feel sick. i anyway would have to go out from july. i just dont know how ill be able to manage it all, dawn. from going out 5 days a week to studying to maintaining a disciplined routine. i havent done that in years and i feel this fear and grief. about english, i love the classes, i understand the teachings, i like the tutor who is of around my age i think. but english language is just overwhelmingly lengthy. not hard but lengthy. you have to keep so many things in mind. you have to write an evaluative response worth of 35 marks comparing 2 non fiction texts and then an article worth of 15 marks all in 1 hr 45 mins. *** britishers. and this is just unit 1 of the subject. there's 3 other units. we are practicing the first task of unit 1. i have just finished my first response and i hate it.
live in the present - yes, but it still gets to me. the future thoughts, the fear of failing and getting d-s.
lastly, i just want to request you to give this post a read. https://www.7cups.com/forum/generalsupport/General_2440/PLEASEKINDLYHELPSUGGESTIONSNEEED_356826/
Another quote for you today: "Unstoppable just means you have the courage to take the next step."
I hope that you have had a good day with a nice combination of self-care and starting to study the English a bit. It is all one day at a time.
Great job in starting with your self-care and telling me about your studies! Keep that up.
All of that therapy is bound to help keep you on track. Do as much of it as you can. That is very much self-care and will help you on your journey.
My favorite part of your message was when you started talking about English and said that you loved the classes and are getting along with the tutor. Those are the only things that matter right now with your studies.
Stop worrying about the length or what will happen with the exam. It is all going to be built one brick at a time. The wall could be tall but it is still made of single bricks. Tell me about the "I just finished my first response and I hated it" part. What made you hate it? I can help if you are struggling with themes or how you are saying things. It is just one assignment at a time. You are going to get through.
I hope to look at your other post and comment when I am back on in two nights. But start all of our communication exactly how you did here. Your fear is going to lessen the longer that you are doing this and the more comfortable you get. We are working to get your brain thinking differently. That will take time but you are doing it.
I am not going to comment too much on the other thread because it looks like you have a good person there who is giving you much of the same advice that I am about embracing the present and knowing that you can do it. I am very glad for you. More people to help is always good.
You will figure out the bedbug issue, but my advice would be a pest control company and washing everything that you own (especially bedding) in really hot water to kill the bugs.
So how is the English coming thus far? Are you continuing some good self-care? I have been thinking about you and cheering you on from a distance.
Thank you so much for your regular support, Dawn. About my first response of English, well I hated it because I felt I could write much better and it was not upto the standard of the exam which I know is foolish to expect at the starting stage. Even my tutor says the same. She is very encouraging and says that I am in a better place than her when she started. But then again, I constantly doubt myself and feel that even 11 months is not enough for my preparation. English, like my other 2 subjects, have 4 units. In the first year, you give 2 units and in the the second, you give the other 2 - your A-levels are complete. We are on unit 1 of English. Unit 1 consists of 2 writing tasks. You are given 2 non-fiction texts which could be articles, speech, journal extract and have to write an evaluative response comparing both tests in terms of how the language used in them reveals the identity of the two speakers and their context. You have to add your critical comments, analyse graphology, lexis, grammar, gender theories, and the content and purpose of the text. 2nd writing task is that you have to write an article/report etc about the related topic of the 2 texts you have been given. It's just a lot. Too much to write in only 1 hr 45 mins. I panic. My coaching classses for my other 2 A-level subjects are gonna start from tomorrow and I am nervous and lowkey agitated over the fact that I'm gonna be sitting with people 5-6 years younger than me, I feel like a failure and feel ashamed. I don't know what to do with this grief, how to cope with it. Yeah, they wouldn't know my age and my childish/younger looking face helps with that but the truth I know right- and it gives me pain. And the study stress, I constantly find myself needing reassurances and validation that I can do it. Pass all my 12 units/exams. I don't know how I will keep going. With a disciplined routine, studying everyday, maintaining focus. They feel too much.
Sorry that I didn't see this earlier.
I think that you will be just fine with the English. Stop looking at the giant pile or what you have to do at the end. Focus just on the immediate task in front of you. Remember that the only thing that matters is the present. Being filled with regret doesn't help you. You are going to do well in your other subjects too. Take it a day at a time.
Remember how to start these - one form of self-care and what you are doing to study for stuff TODAY. We need to continue to retrain your brain. @querencia798
I am hoping that you are having a good, solid week. I have been thinking about you and sending lots of peace and strength your way.
We made it to July! I am thinking that the second half of this year is going to go much more smoothly than the first half.
Sending peace.
I dunno, Dawn but I pray and hope your words come true and I feel confident in my studies.
I love that you are feeling confident.@querencia798
