Anyone have any tips for coping with depression or chronic illness?

Start with the basics - are you eating on a regular basis, getting enough liquids and sleeping? @Tripleplay

The sleeping is the toughest one to do. Sometimes your body just won't let you. But it is really frustrating because without the sleep you don't have enough energy for anything else. What kinds of things are you trying to do to help?@Tripleplay

Yeah, I agree. Honestly, I don’t try anything. What helps me is my faith in God. I was thinking about speaking to a professional since I now have my own insurance. I don’t know how much that will help but I figured I would give it a try.

The therapist can help. It is a good idea to try.

Sometimes sleep aids can also make life a lot easier. The only drugs that I take anymore are the ones to help me sleep.

But I also try all the traditional stuff too - regular bed time, little caffeine, etc. Sometimes saying a simple mantra over and over again while breathing slowly in and out can also help a great deal. It can be "I will get better" or "God helps".

Sending lots of strength and peace. @Tripleplay

Thanks! I will definitely reach out and the same goes to you. I never mind listening to others. ❤️❤️ Some of my energy has been restored by your powerful tiny hug. 🙂 Yes, tiny but powerful. The whole world would benefit from a tiny hug. I know you can spell. I blame technology not the person. Lol

If you can try to get outside, I live in Alaska so for like 7 months out of the year that’s almost impossible but it helps me forget about my problems at least for a little bit

This is something I want to try actually! Going outdoors. I just have a hard time finding the time between work and my responsibilities in the evening after work.

I feel like bike riding would be something that would help even a little bit. It’s just hard to find the time. Also, my chronic disorder might make it a little difficult.

I don't know if tips are very helpful yet today when I couldn't go on I listened to Douglas Bloch videos on YouTube and it helped.

I've been in chronic passive SI for about two decades and at this point I could go at anytime so, yeah; helpful YouTube videos is one tip.

Routines and rituals: a morning and evening routine anchors the day and night on something self sustaining, rituals are ports in the storm.

Also, apps. Many use Voidpets and Finch, and peaceful gaming like Stardew Valley or Forest Island.

Prioritizing these things at set times, or using timers in general can help. Something can seem more doable with a set time.

Building a support team of positive people who believe in you when you can't can be one of the biggest tips. Isolation is a dream killer.

Doing guided visualizations or hypnotherapy, finding a mentor or sponsor, staying open and curious instead of judgemental are great too.

All these things can be helpful in the healing process and building a life one loves, is joyful about and appreciates, even when hope's gone.

@chipandale33

Thank you. 🙂❤️ I wish I could trust people, but I find it way too difficult. They always only disappoint me. I only tell them what I’m comfortable telling them. I never tell them everything fully.
