💠 Day 25 : Petals of Progress Challenge 💠
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to practice mindfulness and build resilience. Today’s activity helps you observe urges without being swept away, using the Urge Surfing technique.
🏄🏾♀️ What is Urge Surfing? 🏄🏾♀️
Urge surfing is a mindfulness skill that teaches you to ride out cravings or impulses like a wave, acknowledging them without acting on them. By observing the rise, peak, and fall of an urge, you learn it’s temporary and manageable.
Activity 🌊 :

Directions :
Use the worksheet to map your urge like a wave:
1️⃣ Identify the Urge - Example: “Urge to check social media constantly,” “Craving junk food when stressed.”
2️⃣ Trigger - “What situations, people, or thoughts spark this urge?”
- Example:
- Trigger: “Feeling lonely at night.”
- Trigger: “After an argument with a friend.”
3️⃣ Ride the Wave -
A. RISE
Thoughts, feelings, actions as the urge builds:
- Example:
- Thoughts: “I need to distract myself NOW.”
- Feelings: Restlessness, anxiety.
- Actions: Pacing, picking up phone repeatedly.
B. PEAK
Thoughts, feelings, actions at the urge’s height:
- Example:
- Thoughts: “I can’t handle this feeling.”
- Feelings: Overwhelm, tension.
- Actions: Opening apps mindlessly.
C. FALL
Thoughts, feelings, actions as the urge fades:
- Example:
- Thoughts: “It’s passing. I’m okay.”
- Feelings: Relief, calm.
- Actions: Taking deep breaths, journaling.
Remember 💙:
“You are the surfer, not the wave. You can stay balanced, even in stormy moments.”
