Depression and Feeling "Behind" in Life

Hello hello lovely people 🤗 I've been thinking a lot lately about the feeling of falling behind in life, especially when that feeling is coupled with depression.

Depression can make us feel isolated, like we're watching everyone else's life unfold and progress right in front of us. Whether it be their career, education, family planning, or what have you. When we are struggling, it's easy to see other's progress and compare our own, and that can lead us to spiral about falling behind.

I want this to serve as a reminder that progress in life is not linear, nor do the same generally sought after achievements in life happen at the same time for everyone (or for some, these achievements like marriage are not sought after at all). What one person may accomplish at 20, another may accomplish at 60, and both are worthy of being celebrated. 💗 Dreams can evolve or rapidly change in another direction and that's okay.

Life does not have to be a constant stream of progress. It's okay to take time to reflect, work on your mental health, and generally make inner progress that others may not see immediately when they look at you or talk to you.

There will be times where you fall. But you are not "behind." If no one has told you recently, you are loved and cared for.

Now a question for everyone:

What is something you've done in the past month that you are proud of?

@fairyava

I am late diagnosed neurospicy (ADHD for sure, possible AuDHD, still exploring that with my provider).  Growing up as a millennial I was told if I did the right things, life would be easier--All lies!

What I am most proud of in the past month is having over 30 articles published online.  HIgh School me would be so proud right now.  I started writing for the online magazine in November, and my internship ends soon, and I have had to start putting together a portfolio and it has lit my world up.

My light and love for writing was blown out by the demands of being an adult, if I would have followed my passions when I was younger, I often wonder where I would be now.

(also, just because I said I have published articles, doesn't mean I don't make typos and grammatical errors without proof-reading and editing, my neurospicy brain makes a lot of mistakes when typing fast, including typing words that are two thoughts ahead of where my fingers typing are.)

@InvaderStitch

Absolutely, life will throw challenges our way despite doing all the "right things" sometimes.

Wooow! That is so incredible, I am so proud of the hard work you've done for this internship, friend. Over 30 articles is truly an amazing achievement. 🫂

@fairyava what a beautiful and incredibly supportive post! Thank you so much for sharing 💗🫂

To answer your prompt: What is something you've done in the past month that you are proud of? My response is :

Something that I've done in the past month that I'm really proud of is beginning to get back into my practice of setting intentions/meditating/taking deep breaths everyday.
