Divorce

I come from an Arab country, I’m atheist, my husband and I were lovers and got married last January, he’s so religious, we are completely different, I adore him, but he never made effort to me, after we got married he stopped talking to me and ignoring me, comparing me to his brothers wife, showing me that all women like him and sends me chats with them just to show me that they are approaching him and he refuses, I spoke to him many times how hurtful it is!! Once I bring the word divorce he cries and I start feeling guilty and I’m stuck in this cycle, I’m deeply in hurt and borken, he doesn’t recpect my beliefs, family, country, thoughts, he wasn’t like that before marriage, now I asked for divorce and still have fear to lose him, my hurt burns and I’m crying my heart out, I’m so lonely to the way I can’t vent to anyone around me although everyone think I’m too social and can’t even count my friends and family members, but no one supports or understands

You are caught in a difficult situation.

I'm sorry his true colours were revealed after the marriage.

He shouldn't be so disrespectful as in to not respect what you believe in.

I'm sorry you feel so alone in this 🩷

He does not sound bad. I have different standards for muslium and non muslium men. On my Muslim men standard he is good. He likely does not know how to behave with you, I suspect his mum was not like you.

He seems insecure his behaviour seems to be they think I am ok. You are assertive I am not ok, they seem to think I am ok I will show you cycle repeats.

Most Muslim men are taught tribalism where men must dominate. He is not like that being attracted to you but does not have education to interact in more constructive way.

Allah forces no dîn but most Muslims do. From the sounds of it your husband does not. Sam harris is an atheist who is spiritual if you’re interested you might find common ground with your husband. If your not interested in spirituality you could acknowledge to your husband that one of the five most repeated requests of Muslims is to gain knowledge and you respect that assuming you do.

Wishing you well. You may be interested in the islamic concept of itjhad assuming you have not heard of it.

I’m sorry for you. This is the reality. In all relationships, the romantic stage ends, and we start to see our partner more clearly—it’s not always what we expected. It’s better to understand what kind of partner we want before starting a relationship, and what a healthy relationship looks like. But your situation is a valuable experience. I hope you will be happy and find the answers for yourself, and we're here, always ready to listen to you.
