Does anybody hear me?
Brand new here. Don't know why I'm writing. Plagued by depression and anxiety for most of my adult life. Diagnosed about 6 years ago and definitely treatment resistant. On meds and seeing therapist. Last year, I contacted about 12 people and let them know what's going on "behind the mask", asking for their support and a check in here and there. While everyone said yes, only two have checked on me and that was only one time each. Does anyone even care? These are people who I trusted and thought would want to know and be support. But it seems that I was wrong and apparently pretty much nobody cares. It's bad enough when just the depression tells you that, but now it really feels true. I have felt so lonely for so long, but now, it is even worse. I should've never reached out.
@chanceman4
I know you just wanted a hey how is it going from the bunch you shared with .........
Imo many shy away worried that checking in could be a bigger commitment of they are really unsure how to help you.
Hi I have been dealing with depression for over 20 years. My last battle was about 3 months ago and it hit me pretty hard so I decided to see a psychologist for the first time in about 7 years. It helped me a lot. He discussed how anxiety and depression actually work and he also suggested for me to read 2 books. The 10 Best Ever Anxiety Management Techniques and Feeling Good. They discuss not only coping skills but talk about how the brain works in regards to anxiety and depression. I really liked the books and I am still reading them. I am not a huge fitness guy but for the last 3 months or so I take a walk in my hilly neighborhood and I also jog a little bit to get my heart rate up. This helps me tremendously. I usually do it on my lunch break because I work close to home. I am also on an anti depressant which is 20 mg of Lexapro and when I go through my anxiety/depression episodes I will take Klonopin. There is hope and you will be ok. Trust me. There will be something whether a future medication or technique that will work for you
Yes, Feeling Good is excellent! Here is a link to a TED talk if you’re interested.
It can be hard when people don’t support us. I think maybe they just don’t understand how to help. I had some family members who were there, but they shifted into pep talks instead of listening. It can feel exhausting.
@hopefulPond6108Did I forget the link? Here it is
It can be really hard. Sometimes people don't know exactly how to care or how often you will need it. They expect that if you need something that you will contact them.
Here is a good spot to reach out because people know that the need for support is constant.
If you add to this particular thread (rather than starting a new one) I can pretty much guarantee almost daily contact. I know from my own experience how important that is.
