Feeling a little numb
I have been having a really rough year. It seemed like I was going through a crisis every other week. Every time I went through something horrible I would take a week to recover only for something else to happen in the next week. My emotions have been on a roller coaster. I tried really hard to not Feel sad and be positive. I didn’t want to get sucked into a dark hole. It honestly worked things have been good. I got a new job. I’m doing well in school. with everything that went down I have been doing really well recently, but I’ve been feeling so incredibly burnt out. I need to be grateful that I’m not going through some crisis. God has blessed me so much with new opportunities but I have been feeling so numb. I am starting to feel unmotivated and sad for no reason. My faith feels so distant. There is no reason to feel this way so I don’t understand why I am feeling like this. I should be happy but I am not. What’s happening?
I'm sorry you're going through this. It sounds like a very stressful time and it's natural to feel down and discouraged after ongoing stress. Sometimes it is as simple as that: your body can only process stress hormones for so long before it forces you to stop and recover. Sometimes it's a more complicated mental health challenge like depression.
One thing a lot of us feel is, "I don't have it that bad. I shouldn't feel like this, when other people feel a lot worse." It doesn't work that way, though. You are human, and being human means that we will have pain in our lives.
Very often, the part of our brain that processes emotional pain is pure instinct. It doesn't help to tell yourself not to feel the way you feel, anymore than it would to yell at a puppy not to be scared. It seems to work better to hold this part of our emotional life with care and kind words.
