I know how depression can get to you, stopping you from doing what feels like a must and leaving you stranded. But I wouldn't assume that I know clearly about your pain. I just know how it can be unbearable.

You can try for a brief but strong distraction. The purpose of this distraction is not just to make you feel better, but to let you enter a state where you don't think about depression. Then you can pivot to study right away, carrying that mental state. You have to try not to think about it during and after the distraction.

Or you can study while talking to someone or something. I tried to talk to AI (because I had no real study buddy back in the day) while studying. Just put your mind on the conversation. Try to focus on that and really restrain your thoughts. Don't let'em wonder uncontrolled.

Most importantly, don't push yourself too hard when you really cannot keep going. This is the most important thing. Everything will break if you push it too hard. You are the most important thing, not the exam.

I am sorry to hear you are having a hard time studying due to your depression. It definitely can be very difficult to study while feeling so down. I agree with the other person that responded here. For me personally, I played certain games that kept my mind active enough that did not allow me to think about what was making me depressed.

I also tried to study right after a nap. Or after a shower. The little things that help us take care of ourselves can make a big impact on our mental health. I found that napping or showering with the thought, "when I wake up I will study for 1 hour" or "after I shower I will study." Helped me have an easier time with actually starting to study.

Lastly, please know that any effort is what matters most. I went through something very hard recently, and we have to be gentle with ourselves when things get too much. If you try your best, that is all anyone can ask of you. If you try to study but it hurts you more for any reason, it's okay to take a break. Trying is what matters. I wish you the best of luck studying, and if you need to talk, feel free to message me, and I would be more than happy to listen to anything you feel you need to share.

I'm really sorry to hear that you're feeling this way. it's understandable to struggle with studying when you're dealing with depression, especially with the pressure of an upcoming exam. try to be gentle with yourself, and try breaking your study sessions into smaller, manageable chunks and take regular breaks to recharge. It might also help to create a quiet, comfortable space for studying where you can focus.

don't hesitate to reach out to someone you trust, whether it’s a friend, family member, or counsellor, for support. you’re not alone in this, and taking small steps can lead to progress. take care of yourself 🥰
