Introducing myself and posting about my experience with depression
Hi everyone,
I'm brand new to 7 cups and wanted to introduce myself on this thread.
I'm 38, single and live alone. I live in a different town from family and friends and that makes me feel more lonely.
I've had depression on and off since I was 12-probably. I've always felt a melancholy about the world and while I have much better months and even years-right now I'm really struggling.
I have a separate issue with Body Dysphoria but I want to come on here and meet other people experiencing depression.
I feel like I'm becoming more insular, more in my own head and unable to connect with people. I just want to feel happier again and it's a real struggle to get through each day
Welcome! I just joined a few weeks ago. Seems like an honest place.
I'm really sorry that you suffer with body dysphoria. I have a really great friend who also has it, and explained it to me. That's got to be so incredibly hard.
What I understand myself is having friends and family far away. I've moved alot and I miss my favorites who are scattered everywhere but here.
But I really am cheering for you to take chances. Take chances right where you are. Your friends far away chose you... Others right where you are will choose you too.... Take small steps and maybe go out take a walk where there are lots of people around 3 times this week and just say a friendly little hi with an open smile as you pass them by... Something small like that... There are some really great talking groups out there, maybe at a church that has a singles group... Maybe join a yoga class... Just small steps where you can get comfortable around people and you can see them 3,4,5 times over a few weeks... Some place where you don't have to be bold right away, you can just get to know everyone by being there, you can jump into the conversation later when you get comfortable.
Just ideas. You've got to take those chances to be present with local people. (Who by the way, are hoping to meet somebody like you, they are hoping you will show up!!)
@RedWell
Thanks so much for your kind words of encouragement. BDD sucks and it really interferes with my day to day life. I'm still working and that gives me a chance to socialise but I have found myself being more insular and not wanting to go out and meet people.
I think in the meant time. discovering 7 cups will be helpful as it gives me a chance to reach out as well as focus on other things.
