Hey I’m 18 and I was hit by a car a little over two weeks ago. Right now I understand it was an accident I’m not upset. I just miss my leg the way it used to be. I’m starting to be able to walk without a walker so walking isn’t the issue it’s just so ugly now. It’s gonna have a lot of scars and look misshapen for a long time idk if it will ever look the way it should. I miss my leg

@shygal00

I am sorry you have to go through this. It will take time to get used to how your leg looks now. My best friend also had an accident and has scarred leg. I can tell that it was not an easy journey for her but she managed. After all, we were all grateful that nothing more serious happened to her because it was a bad accident. I know it is hard, but remember that on 7 cups there are listeners you can talk to or you can join Sharing circles for more support.

I wish you a soon recovery!

I am so sorry that this happened to you. Accidents can take a bit to recover from physically and mentally. What your leg looks like now or how it feels now will probably fade with time, but it means that you have to be really patient right now. What kinds of things are you doing to care for yourself?@shygal00

As the immortal saying goes, "s*** happens."

I'm very sorry this happened to you. Bad luck can & does take an uncaring turn...

Try to focus on the fact that you still have your leg. Even better, focus on the fact that you're still alive & mentally together enough to be aware of the situation. It's not something I would say right off the bat but...it could've ended up far worse than it did. A scarred leg may not be great to look at, but you could've wound up in a wheelchair for the rest of your days. Or with enough brain damage to where going to the bathroom & pulling your trousers down before heeding the call of nature is a major achievement. When my problems get me down, I try to remind myself of this.

To the extent that you heal from this--& you will, though to what extent I cannot predict--it will take time. When that day comes, the day when you can discard your walker will be a great day.
