Job Search
I started my job search out with some enthusiasm to get away from my toxic workplace last year. I've been looking since last November. I have gone through the resume reviews, gotten help writing them, had friends critique, did position planning/career path planning.... I'm tired. Nothing came of it. Still stuck in the same old space. Still feeling unnecessary to the world. Still attempting to get by on low pay. And I'm supposed to try and keep doing resumes and keep looking and now I'm just beaten down. I have no energy to look, to bother. I feel like this is it for me. I don't want it to be but it just seems this is it. I've never looked for work for so long. Glad I have a job or I'd be really in trouble. I am attempting to change careers but like, I went and got additional education and am in process of continuing that education. And I'm only looking at entry level positions. Apparently it's just not good enough. I feel so much at a loss. There's one place that I should email that I'd like to work at. Been thinking about it all week. But I just don't have the where--with-all to even bother anymore. I just work at my toxic job, sometimes exercise, and sleep. That's my life.

Finding work is not like it used to be many applications or computers sorting out resumes it seems like a person will never even get a foot in the door. some people have sent many versions of resumes to get past computer looking for specific statements etc.
Not sure where you are or what type of work you are seeking but short of networking or dealing with a recruiter it is hard to get any responses in my area. Do you know someone in the type of work you are looking at or a friend of a friend? Have you tried placement agencies?
Many employers use as a screening tool as the contract runs 6 months temp to hire so employer can see your work ethic and effort before hiring then firing .... that all falls on the agency . I found agencies found employers i did not even knew existed. This is also handy if place is NOT a good fit you can back out before converting to a company employee from the placement agency.... dodged a few bullets ( toxic places) that way ....
Thank you, @toughTiger6481.
My therapist says the same thing, that work is harder to get - based on what her clients are saying. It's discouraging that this is how the workforce is changing. I do tend to get past the computers but then nothing. But damn the computers, anyway. Then I have a friend who works in HR who says sometimes people gatekeep. As if it wasn't bad enough already.
I am going from being a researching journalist and associate producer to data analysis and research assistance in medicine or, if I really must - I'll stick to human rights. I've been networking to the extent that I can. I have one insider at a hospital but the hospital HR is so so bad. It's been a nightmare dealing with them. My other friend who works at an animal insurance company (not entirely my cup of tea) says anytime he gives friends referrals that the HR internally pulls him aside and questions his motives and then the friend goes unhired. As damned as the computers should be, I think the people are even worse.
The next step will be temp and recruiter. Thanks for reminding me. I am just so heavy hearted at this time I don't have it in me to reach out. I can't believe how broken everything is.
