Looking for someone who understands
For the past 5 years, i have been struggling with depression and anxiety. They say, turn to your loved ones in times like these, but what if everyone dismisses your feelings and emotions? Even friends tease you saying that it’s the same damn problem over and again, instead of helping you.
@deanw390 me too Brother. Me too.. i get it, trust me, i'm living It in my own flesh. Right now. I Need someone to talk to, but i'm scared. You're not alone. I know, i can't belive even It for myself. But trust me. Please. I was in the Edge of ... Yk... But i stayed strong. If i did It, you can too. He? She? Doesn't matter. You're a Person. Please. Stay strong. Please.
Oh yes, I remember how it was when I was first diagnosed. Family was definitely not the ones I could turn to for support at all. Friends, they only understood depression as sadness, and they often told me, "Oh yea, I get depressed too because I only got 92% on a test!" There I was, rolling my eyes, thinking, that is NOT what depression is.
So, I totally understand you and what it's like to have nobody around that understands what depression is and how they could support you. I find back then, I turned to a lot of online help. Before I found 7 Cups (joined in 2017), I had found other online support forums for depression. Back in the day, I just used Google to looked at Online Support Forums, I was lucky to have found one back in my school days. I can't say it was a lot of help, but it was still comforting in ways knowing that there are people out there who understand what you're going through. I also tend to trust strangers than my own family. So, it was easier for me to spill my heart out online to people I'll never meet, than, to my own family, who does not know what depression is or want to learn enough about it to help me.
Here in 7 Cups, many are great at lending an ear to whatever you feel comfortable sharing. So feel free to share your experiences.
Take care.

Okay what are you looking for?
@deanw390 I feel this. I have had a *** of a time the last 7 years. I have a plan now to get back on medication which will help immensely I think. My family has helped me and otherwise but they are not the type of people that I can turn to for emotional support. They just tell me I need to be stronger. I need to do this and I need to do that. We don't understand the paralysis that comes with true depression. Things are just not as easily done when you have no motivation and your self-esteem is in the gutter. Luckily I do have some friends that I can turn to. I'm not very good about asking for help or asking for an ear but it is something that I am actively working on. It is helpful for me to turn off social media and come here instead. Reading these posts, this is what people's lives are actually like what people actually go through. It's not all just post pictures of vacations and looking perfect. Definitely helps to know that other people feel the same way.
I learned to rely on myself and my own capabilities of what I have to offer the world through my own skillsets. There's only one you. And this is possibly your origin story. The person who's down but not out, doesn't have any help. Most heros have to tune out alot of sounds from people that don't understand. And that's fine you will always have yourself to fall back on and you know what? That's ok. Just make sure to be nice to yourself. Be your own best friend.
@deanw390 I empathize. Been there my whole life.
@deanw390 it’s tough when the people around you don’t understand or dismiss what you’re going through. Just know that your feelings are valid, even if others don’t get it. You’re not alone, it might help to reach out to a support group or a therapist who can offer some guidance. 💙
