🐾 My Cat, My Grandma, and What Happened Today
Today something really painful happened. I had already fed my cat earlier, and she’d eaten well. Later, a big stray cat — one that often visits us for food and we sometimes pet — came around again. My grandma saw that and got angry. She said things like, “You think money is for free?” and then grabbed a broom to chase the cat away.
But it didn’t stop there. She even picked up a big knife — and tried to hit the cats with it. Watching that, I couldn’t do anything. I just stood there. I don’t have any power or say over her. She’s older, and everyone listens to her.
After that, our own cat ran to the back of the house. When I went out to look, she was just sitting there quietly, looking at me — scared and confused, like asking “What did I do wrong?” I tried to calm her, motioning her to stay still until it was safe.
The thing is, my cat is safer only when my guardian is home. My guardian is an adult and has more authority in the house, so my cat listens to her too. But even she has her own work, and she can’t always be around.
This isn’t the first time my grandma has done this. Sometimes she even kicks the cat away. She doesn’t see her as part of the family, just as a nuisance. But for me — and my sister — she’s family. Animals take care of me in ways people sometimes can’t. When I feed her, or just sit with her, I feel calm and less alone.
That’s why this hurts so much. I don’t want to see her treated like this again. I told my guardian, and she said, “Oh really? That means we need to take extra care.” I hope she meant it — I really do. Because if this keeps happening, I might have to find a safe place or shelter for my cat.
It’s not just about a pet. It’s about kindness — about how we treat someone smaller, quieter, who can’t speak f
or themselves.

This is a very difficult and sad situation. I feel sorry for you and your cat; you deserve to be treated well. Unfortunately, sometimes it happens that some people don't experience the same things we do. They perceive everything differently and think they're right. I hope you can do something to protect your pet; you truly have a right to do so. So hang in there, and may all be well!
