My silent habit

I am adopted and I am an only child. The only way I know how protect my peace is by being silent. I don’t know how to express myself when I am upset because I didn’t have no one to vent to so I keep things bottled up until I am calm and at peace again. I want to learn how to express myself especially if something is bothering me but I keep going back to my old habit cause it works for me but it not working for my relationship with my significant other. I know this is a bad habit I have and I want to learn how to fix it and what better ways I can do by expressing my self more

What a thoughtful effort. ❤️

Do you wanna try describing the feelings that you tend to bottle up? Like try a few independently. We can see how is wording them out going for you from time perspective.

I can understand very well what you're talking about. When people ask me "what's your problem?" or "how do you feel?" I just don't know how to answer because if you don't grow up in a comfortable and calm home you learn that silence is safer than words, is safer than being misunderstood. I'm tring to getting out of this, I read much because I hope that someone in my books have a similar story to mine so I can explain it better, but the only thing has worked a little is writing. Mainly journaling. I first started telling only the facts (usually bad things) that happen during the day then my feelings about them and some reflections. At the starting it isn't easy to do or very useful but after a bit it becomes easier to do and I think it can help for this kind of situations because if you write you have to find the words for that and if you're too shy for saying them out lout you can let other people read what you've wrote. I'm sorry for your situation so if it helps I would like to know.
