My sister is homeless again

She was thrown out of the shelter with her dog yesterday. My mom is freaking out and I’ve spent more time calming her down so she can continue with her day and not focus just on bad news she can’t change.

My sister got in touch with me through *** and told me she’s not safe. She broke a window and was hiding…

I’m trying not to be scared or angry right now.

@integrityblues

I think it is one of the worst feelings to want to help but often some folks cannot be helped. it is a strain on the family and i understand you having a hard job of keeping your mother calm in this......

i am sure you have tried many many things for whatever her issue is either substance abuse or mental illness. you are not alone there are many families in your shoes not that it makes it easier on you.

@integrityblues

During difficult times like these, it's important to prioritize self-care and maintain open communication with your loved ones. Start by taking care of your own well-being so that you can be a stable support for your sister and mom. Find healthy ways to manage your emotions, such as talking to friends or seeking professional guidance if needed.Reach out to your sister and let her know that you're there for her, offering a non-judgmental ear to listen and support. Encourage her to seek help or assistance if she feels unsafe or overwhelmed. Consider involving local resources, like shelters or helplines, that can provide support during crises.

Communicate openly with your mom about her worries and fears, but also remind her to focus on the things she can control in her daily life. Encourage her to seek distractions and engage in activities she enjoys to reduce stress.

Remember, it's okay to feel scared and angry during these times, but try to channel those emotions constructively. Instead of dwelling on things you can't change, focus on what you can do to make a positive impact. Offer a listening ear, support your sister in seeking professional help, and ensure your mom knows you're there for her. Together, you'll navigate through this challenging period and come out stronger on the other side. 💪

shes just not talking to me now. I’m speaking to my aunts about it, keeping my mother calm, and trying to handle my own emotions. One of them was talking about a rehab my sister could go to if she actually agrees but we don’t know if it will allow her to keep her dog.

At some points, all you can do is research options and wait for her to decide to accept them. I can imagine how stressful it all is. Do the best you can to distract yourself and your mom. @integrityblues

It’s been hard.

She still isn’t answering me, so I’ve been forcing myself to remain busy. My appetite vanished today and I’ve only just forced something down aside from water. Thankfully I felt hungrier once I got a bowl of soup down and I’ve been adding little things like a serving of nuts or a serving of veggie bacon.

The stress can definitely keep you from eating which is what you need to do most to feel less stress. Your brain starts this vicious cycle. It is good that you have gotten something down. Sometimes just sticking to the basics for a bit helps. Sending lots of peace. @integrityblues

I know you most likely didn’t mean anything by it, but that’s something I’ve been struggling with over the last couple days.

the shelter she was thrown out of was overflowing with animals belonging to the homeless tenants. Some, most likely pricey rehabs here, will accept an animal. But hey, my sister might not even accept going to one!

I can’t take her pet, neither can my mother, and I can’t help but think the little guy is going to meet some grisly end!

Im sorry. I’m emotional and I should t have bothered. I’m not angry at you, I’m angry over the way this whole situation makes me feel.

@integrityblues you have every right to be angry.

Pets people everyone gets hurt in these situations.

She has very tough choices ahead. I respect your feelings and pain.

Take care of you, and your mother. You deserve it.
