Parenting a 2year old Boy
I’m a new mom of a 2year old. It always feels like he doesn’t understand anything I say. He prefers to listen to his father. We were speared for 3months when he was 7months due to school commitments. Just today, he cried out loud after I offered him food. That really shocked me. We are struggling with potty training, this phase is important and I do not want to mess it up. Any advice on how to parent my toddler will really help. Thanks

I'm certainly no expert, but I think an important point to remember is that babies are designed to survive. It is very loving and caring of you to want to do your best for him. But mistakes and problems are a part of human existence and it is best that he learns to handle these from the get go. So next time a mistake happens, perhaps be glad you are teaching him about life, and think about how you would like to teach him to respond when life isn't perfect. Apologising, picking ourselves up and trying again, are all great things to model for your son.
Another thing I've heard that might be of interest, is that the babies to be worried about are the ones that don't cry. The babies that cry are babies that have learnt to communicate, they have learnt that someone will come and help them when something is wrong. In other words, they have learnt that someone loves them. Whereas the silent babies have given up hope. Obviously you don't want to leave a baby crying for too long, but a little bit of yelling is not always a bad thing.
All I all, I think you are doing just fine and don't forget to congratulate yourself for all the things you did achieve today.
