Selfish

I do not express myself as well as many of you here but I just need to akwardly ask...I have been reading lots of posts here and I am feeling that even thou I share a lot of your feelings there seems to be a burden I carry that I am not sure others feel. I am told I am very selfish and negative even thou in my mind all I feel is hurt for myself AND others. I cause everyone to be miserable because I can't get my *** together. Is this a normal part of depression? Or, am I just a horrible person who has depression?

Hey, first off, you’re definitely not a horrible person. Honestly, feeling like you’re the cause of everyone’s misery is just depression playing tricks on you. It’s like when your brain tries to convince you that eating an entire pizza is a totally great idea and then regrets it five minutes later. Classic brain move.

You’re not selfish—you’re just dealing with some really tough stuff. And yes, sadly, this guilt trip is totally normal with depression. It tricks you into thinking you’re a disaster, but you’re really just trying to make it through the day.

So, cut yourself some slack. You’re doing your best, and that’s what matters. And if anyone tells you otherwise, just remind them that even superheroes need a nap. You’re not alone in this!😁❤️

@brightaday Thank you so much. I want to believe this but I have destroyed many relationships and have been told how horrible I am. My lifelong depression has caused others to hate me, this I know for sure. I take some relief in you message because I truly want to be different and am very very sorry for all I have hurt. Again, thanks for reponding.

Yw. I get it—it’s tough when you feel like you’ve hurt people and can’t fix it all at once. But here’s the thing: you’re not a horrible person, you’re just in a tough spot. Depression messes with our brains and makes us think we’re beyond repair. But guess what? You’re not. The fact that you want to be different already shows you’ve got the heart to change.

It’s going to take time, but small steps count. Just keep showing up, even on the days you feel like you’re moving in slow motion. And hey, if all else fails, just remember—Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a healthier mindset. You’ve got this!❤️

No, it's normal. Part of depression and being in pain is that...well, it hurts. It's hard to feel hopeful or positive, it's hard to motivate yourself, and honestly? In my experience at least, it can be hard to not see your problems ganging up on you and overwhelming you. It's hard to help or be there for others when you're being beaten up by your own demons. It's normal and understandable.

It's possible to learn how not to get overwhelmed as often, or learn how to push those demons back a bit and to get out of the darkness or get into the habit of doing things that can help. When you don't have motivation, sometimes the first step is to bully yourself into doing things you don't want to do lol until you make it a habit and then it's easier to do. I'm still very much in the early stages of that so I can't give any tangible advice on how to do that, but I know it's possible because my closest friends have been able to get to that point even though they still suffer a lot with their own problems. So it gives me hope knowing it's possible with time and practice.

There's nothing wrong with you, seriously. That is how depression affects us.

@inventiveWater2160 Hi Depression can be difficult. It is normal to have difficulty to expressed your emotions. You have to know that you are not alone with that. You can always ask for help. If you cannot talk with someone in your family, you can always call helplines. The other person will listen to you without judgment.
