Smiling depression

Smiling depression is a paradoxical form of depression where individuals appear pleasant and normal on the surface yet are battling symptoms of sorrow, despair, and emotional exhaustion on the inside. These inner battles are often accompanied by complex fears and anxieties, like the less commonly discussed fear of suicidal failure—the fear that a suicide attempt may fail and cause further misery or shame. Both phenomena describe how personal, cultural, and social pressures conceal and enhance mental distress.
