Still grieving my pet Candy, hoping this post will help me feel better

The post was longer but they would let me post it so I changed it.

Candy loved to cuddle and play fetch.  Whenever I was feeling done she was there, I could carry her for cuddles or just lay down for them.  For 11 years.  Last year after a bunch of vet visits, (we thought it was an eye infection, something she got often do to her health issues)  but it was cancer.  Untreatable.  And Candy was most likely in pain.  I made the difficult decision with the vets help to put her down.  I hate that I still feel like I betrayed her.  I miss her so much.  I know she had to be in pain do to issues she was having.  Which is why I took her to the vet.  It doesn't help my other cat Boots was grieving too.

My friends don't get it, saying to just move on.  Which I am trying but it still hurts.  My family is even worse, saying it was just a cat.  Only my dad and brother were upset but even they moved on quickly.  I do have a pawprint the vet gave me, along with her collar.  Unfortunately it makes me cry seeing it still.  I'm hoping to do something like a portrait with the print and collar.  Thank you for reading, and enjoy a few pictures of Candy.

@ShellyZz

Awww my heart goes out to you. 💛

Candy looks absolutely beautiful, such an adorable cat.

Having to hear invalidating and insensitive things like “was just a cat” or “move on already” must be incredibly upsetting for you, on top of the grief you’re going through, it doesn’t make it any easy seeing people be so casual about something that shifted your world so much.

It may be “just a cat” for someone else but for you it was someone you held dear and loved wholeheartedly, and losing her despite knowing she was suffering, wasn’t easy.

They say it with hoomans too “they are in a better place now” when the hooman was suffering in pain, you’ve seen your cat suffer, in pain, it must be super difficult seeing a love one go through such tribulations, you had to muster every little bit of courage you could to decide what’s better for your cat with the vet and you simply had to do what you did, there was no better option out there, and sometimes life’s a bit unfair like that and no amount of time feels enough with those we love, specially adorable little fur babies who only know unconditional love and care in and ask for literally nothing in return of it (maybe some belly rubs and treats lol but that’s about it), it’s okay to say it like it is and it’s okay to feel hurt and heartbroken like you’re feeling.

What makes it feel unfortunate to cry when you look at the collar? 🫂 I’d just want to remind you that it’s okay to cry and it’s a very fortunate thing you’re able to let your emotions out, all the pain you’re feeling and the tears you’ve been crying are in the name of love, your love for candy and to have loved someone so much all through 11 years and received it from her too, it’s only natural to hurt so much now. *offers hugs* 🫂

Sending love to Boots too.

I’m so proud of you for sharing with us here and for these lovely pictures too. 💛 Candy must be off to the rainbow bridge, rest easy kitty, rest easy!

@Sunisshiningandsoareyou  Thank you so much for your kind words.  This is her birthday month so I think it is also why I'm feeling extra sad.  Reading everyones comments have made me feel better.  Boots is doing better now, he stop chasing his other playmates away from spots Candy used to sleep.  Once again thank you, your words meant a lot!

I’m so sorry for your loss. Although I have five children, my cats are always part of my family. I currently have four cats myself. I will get my cats extra snuggles today for Candy.

@RealJoy Thank you so much for your kind words.  Boots (got adoped same time as Candy) gave me cuddles earlier, something he hasn't really done since Candy's passing.  I think I was just feeling really sad as it is Candy's birthday month and my first one without her so it just really hit me again about her being gone.
