What is this hollow feeling in my chest?

I'm putting it under depression topic even though I have zero idea what it actually falls under.

It started about 3 years ago after a particularly emotionally traumatic time, and it took a long time to go away. I don't remember exactly when it happened but at one point when I was "neutral" I felt fine, but whenever I try to work on something consistently for an hour or more, I start to get this hollow feeling in my chest again. This would range from trying to draw, to grinding on video games, not just at my job. Literally anything that requires consistent effort. Even trying to "relax" afterwards or have fun on something wouldn't make the feeling go away, only a nap or waking up the next morning. Sleep seemed to be the only thing to "fill me back up" so to speak.

Every time I try to look it up I get "grief", but of course I haven't lost anyone, so it's not that. I thought maybe it might be stress related? But I tried to take relaxants and that didn't help. I'm really stumped and I don't know what to do. I'm lucky that my current job has enough downtime between tasks that it doesn't trigger this feeling very often, but it's made me stuck and unable to focus on other tasks. I can't even do my hobbies for extended periods of time. Has anyone else experienced this? What was it? How did you recover?

@HidaYasu

Hello there HidaYadu!

You are welcome here, even if it's difficult to guess what's going on and to make diagnosis. 😊

It's positive that your job isn't draining you but you are right in trying to understand what's going on, so that you will be able to find the right coping mechanisms to feel better.

Have you considered talking with a specialist/doctor just to have their opinion? Is it doable for you?

Also, there's the trauma community here in 7 cups, could everything be linked to the traumatic situation you experienced? If you feel to check Trauma Support click HERE

You can post again to share anything you feel to, wishing you to understand soon the cause of your sensations and feelings.

Sending you good vibes 💙

Hi @HidaYasu

I can’t say exactly what is happening. But I have been through this and for me it’s either of two reasons :

  1. I am feeling lonely and need someone like family or anyone
  2. I don’t know where I am heading in life next.

Sleep is the best way to relax yourself and get things out. But I would suggest talking to a therapist or someone just to let things out of your mind. They will help you in seeing things clearly.

And if you just want a friend to talk, you can PM me or any of the listeners. At 7 cups everyone is so supportive and friendly, you can open your hearts to anyone ! ❤️

It might indeed fall under the depression category. Your symptoms sound like mine. Have you ever been evaluated by a doctor? They are the ones who can best tell. @HidaYasu
