my girlfriend and i recently went on a break. i don’t really know how to feel about it and my heart always feels heavy. i’m unsure how to not let this get me down, or not let her bother me. it’s very hard because she’s doing everything she told me she wouldn’t do on this break. i don’t know how to stay positive, or even to work through the emotions.

Hey there,

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. It sounds incredibly painful and confusing. Breaks are really difficult, especially when there's a lack of clarity and your heart is feeling so heavy. Please know that what you're feeling is completely valid and understandable. There's no right or wrong way to feel during this time. 🫂

It's especially tough when the person you care about seems to be going against what they said they would do. That can create a whirlwind of emotions—hurt, confusion, anger, and a sense of betrayal. It's completely normal to feel overwhelmed and unsure how to navigate this.

Here are a few things that might help you process your emotions and find some peace:

  • Acknowledge and Validate Your Feelings:

    - Don't try to push your feelings away. Allow yourself to feel the sadness, the confusion, and the anger. It's okay to cry, to feel lost, and to question everything.

    - Journaling can be a helpful and healthy way to process your emotions. Write down what you're feeling, what you're thinking, and what you're worried about.

  • Focus on Self-Care:

    - This is a good time to prioritize your well-being. Engage in activities that bring you joy and comfort.

    - Make sure you're eating well, getting enough sleep, and exercising. Even small acts of self-care can make a big difference!

    - Spend time with supportive friends and family. Talking about what you're going through can help you feel less alone.

  • Focus on What You Can Control:

    - You can't control your girlfriend's actions or the outcome of the break. I know it's easier said than done but try to focus on what you can control: your own thoughts, feelings, and actions.

    - Try to redirect your energy into activities that are meaningful to you, such as hobbies, work, or personal growth.

  • Give Yourself Time:

    - Healing takes time. Be patient with yourself and don't expect to feel better overnight.

    - Remember that it's okay to have good days and bad days.

It's important to remember that you are not alone, and you will get through this. You deserve to be happy and to be in a relationship where you feel respected and valued. By focusing on your own well-being, you can figure out this challenging time and emerge stronger.

Sending love and light your way,
