therapy
i’m 17. i wanna ask my mom for therapy really bad. i know she will let me go of course, she’s very supportive but im just scared. i don’t wanna ask her face to face and i don’t want her to be worried about me. any tips?
@paramorelvr
Hey hey. It can be scary opening up, admitting that you need help. It sounds like your mom would be super understanding and caring. Chances are she can sense something is up for you and worried anyways. Mothers always know something is going down. If you don't feel like you could vocalize it, can you write it down and give it to her like a note?
Also I deleted the duplicates for you! ^_^
i was thinking about just texting her about needing it and then turning my phone off… i think that’s my safest bet! also thank you for deleting them!
@paramorelvr
I think that is a good safe option, definitely! if you go that route, let us know how she responds and if you get signed up for therapy!
And you're welcome!
I'm the same age, but my family isn't supportive and doesn't acknowledge this because they think, "Why would I get sick or mentally ill when I'm still young, meaning I don't have children or loans to pay off?"My family only knows how to support studying
@sasy
I am sorry to hear that your family does not understand that mental health does not wait for you to become an adult. It must feel so invalidating to have your parents not understand that there are certain stressors and situations that you as a teenager are experiencing, and that it is not just your studies that you are dealing with. I hope that you are able to get support in other avenues for now and that when you are able to, can get into some needed therapy.
@paramorelvr you could text message her or write a letter. Sorry, but she is your mom and she will always worry about you! With that said you could say you want some help with organizing your thoughts and desires. Find out who you are and what you want with someone who is objective. Tell your mom you would tell her if she needed to worry because you would if you felt unsafe or in trouble, right? It sounds like you and your mom have a pretty good relationship. It is scary and uncomfortable to be vulnerable with your mom but at the end of the day she loves you! Do what feels right for yourself
