Depression + Anxiety = A Very Confused Teenager
I am 17 years old, and I have had depression and anxiety for about 2 years, and it's gradually getting worse. For a couple of months, my depression faded after I met my bf, but it's slowly coming back as the end of my senior year draws closer. My bf makes me very happy, but even he can't send the monsters away for long. And after I graduate, it'll be at least three years before we can actually be together again due to our age difference and my plan to move to New York so I can be close to family. Our love is strong enough that we both believe we can survive a long-distance relationship, but I'm scared to leave him.
I'm also anxious about senior year ending. I'm struggling in a couple of classes, and I only have a month to really bring those grades up to a number I can graduate with.
Every morning and every night, I'm so melancholy, and some days I bouncing with the energy of my anxiety. Yesterday I almost had a panic attack for the first time in 2 months.
I'm not having thoughts of killing myself, but I am thinking about death in a distant way. Mood swings triggered by mentions of other people's suicides are leaving me confused and and sad.
I'm having a rough time coping with these frantic emotions, and I don't have all the support that I need. My mother insists that I'm fine, there's nothing wrong with me except typical teenage hormones. My dad gives some support, but mostly sides with my mom on saying that this is all just temporary.
But is it really temporary? Is it hormones?
I don't know, and I am scared.
