How can I stop being depressed because someone broke my heart?
Me and this guy went to school together and we used to have fun and talk all the time. He started coming over my house all the time and I really liked him do I decided to give my virginity to him because I trusted him and thought that he would never hurt me and stuff After the first time, we did it all the time and my feelings grew stronger for him. We used to be together all the time when he would come home from college on the weekends. I haven't seen him in 3 months because he hadn't had his car lately so he can't see me when he want to. He called me one day and told me he had to hunt my number down because he got a new phone and lost his numbers and he always told me he misses me. A week before he was coming back to town I got on facebook and found out that he was in a relationship with his ex that he dated years ago. I was so hurt when I found out. I don't have an appetite for anything and when I think about what he did to me I cry myself to sleep. I know that we weren't really in a relationship, but I did not deserve this at all and he knows it. We have talked since I found out but he doesn't know that I know about it. I'm waiting til I see him in person so we can talk. My friends tell me that I should leave him along because I deserve better and believe me, I know, but my heart is too big. I can't cut him off cuz because I care for him too much. If I do that I know I would miss him. I would like to just be friends with him because I still want him in my life even though he doesn't deserve to be.
@JRENAE97 I think this shows you are very strong and capable of unconditional love, which isn't such a bad thing. On the one hand, you want to be able to draw your boundaries so he won't take advantage of you in the future, but on the other hand, this doesn't mean you have to stop loving him. Sometimes, no matter how much someone has hurt us, we can't stop feeling the way we do. We just have to love ourselves enough not to put up with anymore crap. Say no when you mean no, talk about your feelings, but don't feel pressured to abandon this relationship entirely if you're not ready to. As for not being depressed anymore, well, sometimes it just takes a mind shift and that mind shift can happen in days, weeks, months, sometimes years. Pay attention to the thoughts you think and be gentle with yourself. And yes, there is always counseling and even medication if you find that the feelings are debilitating for you for too long. You don't have to be alone in your journey and I would love to chat with you 1-on-1 if you ever need a listener. Lots of love! <3
