If depression was a person, what would you say to them?

Everyone has different ways of interpreting their depression, for me such tends to reveal itself through my artwork. I was just wondering what you would say to it if it was a person/being? What would you say to your younger self when it was just starting out?

@ShanChan09 I would say to depression, Why do you insist on hurting innocent people? Do you have any idea the amount of pain and suffering you've inflicted upon others? The time of pain you inflict up me? You've hurt my friends and family so much...and I doubt they'll ever be the same again. You're a thief, a liar and a murderer and I wish you'd go away. Please just go away...

If I could say something to my younger self, I would say, I'm sorry you are so overwhelmed. I'm sorry you have to put on a brave face for everyone even though you are scared crapless. I'm sorry you don't get the emotional support you need. I'm just sorry that you had to go through so much stress...it's not fair, you're only a child. I love you and you're perfect the way you are, I don't think I ever told you that... You're strong and brave even if you don't think you are sometimes. Your Sister isn't the only one that is beautiful, even if others give more compliments to her. You don't even care about that, you just wish they wouldn't turn around and say out of pity "Oh well, you're pretty too...", right? I'm not going to lie, you're going to have a difficult life. The things you plan now, aren't going to happen. I know you don't mind me telling you this because in the back of your mind, you know it's probably going to be like this. However, we haven't stopped writing our story, there is still hope. There is always hope...

Phew, that was a good mental exercise! Thank you for posting such a great question! It really made me think and shed a few tears. heart

It's hard to really determine what you could say, there are so many options...personally I'd probably say something like

"just leave, go away...please"

depression is such a horrible thing (I suffer from it) and I'd wish for it to go away for anyone who seriously suffers from it

Dear Depression,

I can see that you feel like you found home in my head, but I would like you to move out as soon as possible. I am not going to force you, but I am gently and nicely going to try to make you leave. We have known each other for years, and I have no benefit from you. So, I would like to ask you to start packing. Thank you. I am glad I knew you. I learned a lot, but it's time to move on.

Sincerely, your ex friend.

I'd probably say something like the following:

Look, you've tried so many times to get me down and make me stay there. It works for a little while, but I can't be upset and negative all the time. I wouldn't get anywhere! I am stronger than the negativity you bring. I am stronger than this. I get back up every time you knock me down. You may think you have the upper hand, but that's far from the case. I have control. Keep on trying, but you'll never totally win.

It would call it a coward for hurting perfectly fine people.

I would say

"You are the worst bully i have ever encountered in my life. You made me believe i was meant to be abused. So i did it to myself. I verbally anf physically hurt myself like you told me to do. Did you jusy want to hurt me or did you purposefully damage others too. Not just anyone...the only support system i had. You are a controlling monster that did hell to people including myself that did not deserve anything but greatness. I would like to thank you for proving my strength and will power to keep moving forward. Thank you, goodbye, i never want to be in your filthy presence again and neither do others. Never. Come. Back.

Dear Depression,

Just leave me alone. You twist my thoughts up and I'm sick of it. I want real friends, but I can't make friends if you are stopping me from being real. Just leave me alone.

I'd probably smirk at it and say, "You can take control of my mind and body, but when I break the chains get ready for a taste of your own medicine."

To my depression.

"You've taken away my heart, you've taken away my trust. There's not much left of me. You're like a deadly virus, infecting people until they're finally dead. I don't want to watch you take over anyone, but I can't see anyway I can stop you. But I'm not going to just stand by doing nothing while you make me tear myself apart trying to get rid of you. Instead, you can live inside me. You can infest my life. But when the day comes that I learn how to destroy you, I won't hesitate. Keep that in mind, because finally I'm coming closer to my goal."

To my past self.

"What is a life without meaning? Exactly what it sounds like. A life with no purpose and no reason. However, what is a life with meaning? Exactly what it sounds like. A life with purpose and reason. How do those two differ? Well, the latter contains no no's. And you know who wrote those no's? We did."
