Advice
Was wondering if anyone could help me here. I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder at the age of 15 and was put on antidepressants. After trial and error i finally found one that works for me. I am now 20 years old and since my first diagnosis I've also been diagnosed with agoraphobia and generalised anxiety disorder. I'm on more medication for that too but I'm starting to go backwards again. My doctor recommends I go to a therapist and talk but I just don't know what to do. This is the first step I have taken towards asking for help since I talked to my doctor 5 years ago. Any advice?

I agree with your doctor, it sounds like speaking to a therapist would be a good step forward for you. It's a new path to take in potentially recovering and it will take time but if you give it your all, it could be a great decision for you! It won't hurt to try it. I would recommend it but it's entirely up to you.

Hey there,
i know how you feel. Talking about it is one of the hardest steps to take. Therapy and Medication are showing the best results in recovering from a mental illness. I would suggest you take that opportunity and take back your life and make it yours!
Cheers and best of wishes,

Hi,
Thank you for the advice. I think I'm afraid that if I go and talk to someone it will make me realise that I am feeling bad again. At least if I don't talk about it I don't have to admit that what I'm feeling isn't good. Part of me feels like I don't want help. But the other part of me knows I need to talk to someone. I'm just don't know what to do. I don't know how to accept that it's ok to talk about how I'm feeling I'm afraid I will feel worse.

For me, facts matter the most. And the fact is that you have got the choice to either 1) change nothing and nothing changes or 2) try it and have a good chance to make your life better. The beginning of a therapy IS hurtful, I will not lie, because you will realize what you suppressed a long time ago. In fact, talking therapy is based on figuring out why you feel what. But there is a good chance to make everything better, trust me and statistics. ;)
You got this.
@Histerikal I think my fear is that the last time I got to the root of things , I didn't like what I found. I don't know. Yknow when you just don't know? That's my life right now.

Being irritated is part of mental issues, really. I know that very well. And yes, in the support groups I take part in, there are people crying, shouting and just suffering. Don't pressure yourself to make a decision. Everything has it's time.
BTW: You don't like what you found because you hate some parts of yourself. This will change in therapy if you work hard on yourself.
@Histerikal I guess part of my irritation is that I don't know if what I'm feeling is normal or not. As cheesy as it sounds I don't know if I can feel anything positive anymore. It's very frustrating. If I talk it all out it might open up a black hole.
@Myillnessandme13
And exactly that is what you will learn there :D that's the purpose of those clinics. You'll learn that there is no "normal" and your feelings have a purpose and are legit. You should give it a try as long as you're free and have the choice. Just my thought on it. :)
