Back to work on Tuesday (tomorrow)
I have been off work the past 3 weeks, and said No to a few shifts when asked if I could work. I spent 95% of my time working on the business I will be launching this summer. I'm not looking forward to heading back to work tomorrow (it's 3:30am Monday at the moment). Although it's a short work-week because of Easter Monday, I'm working the morning shift. Which means, I'll be needing to wake up, latest by 5:30am, in order to have breakfast before making my way to work
After being off for the past 3 weeks and focusing on my business, I'm really not looking forward to working anymore. I miss my colleagues, but not the ones who are directly on my team. I'd rather stay home to work on the preparation of launching my business. I am really pushing for success, really want to aim that I will be earning an income that's equal to the amount of a decent full-time job. But it's difficult to spend all my time on it, when I have to work in my current career. Although I don't need to work everyday of the year, and is only in blocks, it's difficult to focus on my business on my days off; unless they are at least 2 weeks long. I know some people had quit their career and focused on their business only, but I currently don't have the financial stability to quit my job yet.
I seriously don't feel like going to work anymore. I used to love my job, had passion for it, but I now feel like that I'm losing the spark. Maybe because I've been so focused on wanting to start my own business and really make it into the target that I will succeed. That the love for my current career position is diminishing, because the colleagues on my team only makes my work feel like work and no longer something I enjoy as much.
I might have to shorten my goal of earning that decent income with my business in 3 years, down to asap. It is all in my control as to how long it'll take me to succeed. I would really need to make use of my time off when I'm not pre-scheduled for shifts.
I'd better go to bed earlier tonight, so I could wake up to my alarm at 5am tomorrow. I cannot be staying up until this time again for this week. Unless, I run on depression‐mode (which is, still be energetic during the day, despite getting little sleep).
One more thing, when I get home from work on Wednesday, my parents should be back from their 6-week long vacation.
Back at work, and ended up having 2 sick calls. So, I'm staying for overtime. First day back at work in the past month, and needing to work overtime. I already didn't sleep too well last night, being nervous coming to work in the shift that I don't usually work. I went to bed around 11pm last night, woke up briefly at 1am and 4am. As alarm is set for 5am this week.
Staying overtime tonight though, I did not prepare a dinner. I did have some breakfast before coming to work this morning, and I'm still full now. So, I hope I can stay full until I'm off. I only brought coffee, because I'd originally be off at 3:30pm, I could've have dinner at home instead.
Other colleague stayed for 4 hours overtime last Thursday already, so I agreed to stay for today. Hopefully we get one of the sick calls back for tomorrow, or else it's going to be busy.
So, turns out the evening shift colleague will be off sick for the rest of the week. Which means I'll be staying for overtime for the remainder of this week. Last night, I was able to leave by 6:30pm, let's see how the rest of the week goes. Hopefully 3 hours extra is enough. The other colleague that works the morning shift will be staying an hour overtime. It makes some difference for her to stay, because she's actually using the time to help out.
So sorry that I missed all of this. My life has been really crazy for the last week and I had to take a short break.
It is okay to no longer love the job because you are ready to move forward. The question is how soon that you can do so. Maybe you should launch the business a little early.
I hope that you do get some sleep in the next few days.@Jaeteuk
I was able to only stay for 3 hours overtime on Friday, and left as soon as I could. But having been waking up at 5am all week, it was the same over the weekend. I woke up at 5am automatically on Saturday, and woke up around 6am on Sunday. It's going to be busy at work for the next 2 weeks, even though surgeries will be cut down by half, but with the elevator out of service, it's still going to be a lot of running around, department to department.
Hope this week will be better for you~
@bestVase7265
You will make it through. This week is already a bit better for me so far. @Jaeteuk
Luckily, starting today, the nurses are using a new system. So, surgeries are cut down in half. So, it shouldn't be as busy for the remainder of the month. I will only be affected if surgeries end late. But another issue is parking. I came to the parking lot around 10:15am, starting my shift at 11am. And there was no parking space at all, I ended up calling my parents for them to come take my car away. My brother will be picking me up soon. It'll be stupid if I need to arrive before 10am, just to find a free spot though! I'll try and arrive at 10am tomorrow, and see if there's any difference.
Colleague asked if I could swap a shift with her for next Monday. Perfectly fine, working a 6:30am shift means plenty of parking to choose from. We already got 10 extra spots, that where we used to park at our own risk. Now, they made those curbside space into numbered stalls. But still, with 10 extra spots, still not enough for the staff. Even a lot of the street parking is full too. I'm really not looking forward to working here anymore.
I left one my carts in the middle of the room because there was equipment in the way, a nurse comes over to me and asks if it was me. Good thing I changed my wordings to how I'll fix it later, otherwise, she's going to be yelling at me. Having her come to me like that and the tone she used, already made me a bit upset. Why can't they just be thankful enough that there is a cart inside the room? Or speak nicer words and don't sound like they're complaining.
I really used to love my job, but it seems that the people I work with, are getting more and more difficult to please and meet their standards. I also feel others take their anger out on me. And just as the many times I've vented about the colleagues directly on my team, they expect me to do things that are part of the "teamwork", when they don't help at all. Then, when their part of the work is left undone because I didn't get to do it, they complained about it, how I didn't do my job properly. I really don't get how they don't understand the definition of "teamwork" is helping each other out with our tasks, and not just doing your own list of daily tasks. This is the part where it's making me not love my job as much as when I first started 3 years ago. So, I'm really aiming for the success of my own business, so that I can "retire" from my current job. Be my own boss, and don't have to worry about people complaining about my work. When it's clear to others that I do a lot of the work already.
*Sigh* sorry for making this reply so long, I've just had enough from colleagues here who don't appreciate the work that I do and take advantage of me.
Remember that COVID has caused a huge amount of stress to build in healthcare. It makes things that used to be small seem much larger and people are yelling more. Them taking it out on you isn't right at all, but your frustration is being felt by everyone.
I hope that the rest of your shifts this week go well. It sounds like you got some sleep. I sometimes struggle to stay asleep too. @Jaeteuk
I sometimes feel they only take it out on me, because I'm the youngest and the staff with the least seniority hours. So, it's normal for them to be frustrated with my work. Luckily it's only a few of them like that, so I do try and brush it off. But it does bother me at that moment and takes some time until I can brush it off.
I got an email from my Manager asking me to work for a week in May, but she had pre-approved the weeks that I'm not scheduled to have them off. So I said no to it. I mentioned I'm scheduled to work all of July all through end of September with only 3 days off in between, so I'd appreciate if I could keep those pre-appoved time off from May and June.
My sleep is still set to last week's time. I was waking up at 5am for a morning shift. This week so far, no need for the alarm, and I'm already waking up before 6am. I might need to keep this up, as I was asked to work an early morning shift next Monday. Colleague wanted to swap with me, as she says she needs to take her daughter's dogs out for a walk in the morning, and won't be able to work the morning shift for that day. I've agreed to the swap, and it should be approved soon too.
You did a great job in sticking up for yourself and not taking on those extra hours. You will get through the ones that you do have slowly but surely.
You are right that they are taking it out on you unnecessarily. I just find it easier for me to manage when it happens to me to focus on what kind of pain they might be in or things that they might misunderstand. Then it doesn't hit me quite as hard. @Jaeteuk
I think they can use those extra hours to practice how to work like a team. If I said yes to that week, I'd be the extra body and probably end up be the one doing all the extra work. I emailed my Manager telling her about my workload, and how I feel things aren't fair and how I feel that the others are taking advantage of my work ethics. But I also told my Manager than I'm not expecting her to deal with the unfairness, but that I just wanted to let her know the situation at hand and voice out my concerns. I also mentioned things that I think the others on my team sees/expects me to do, just because I'm much less seniority than they are. I'll see what happens after and if there will be any changes.
I try to not think about their frustrations as telling me off, but that they are talking about the situation and not like a personal attack.
Sorry that I missed last night. I had a huge event that I was organizing today and I had too much to do last night to even breathe. Today was really chaotic but it got done okay.
It sounds like writing a note to your boss about how things are going was a good move. I hope that she found it helpful.
Will you get a little more time off this weekend?@Jaeteuk
It must've been a lot of get ready for your event. Glad it went smoothly.
I have some projects planned over the weekend for my business. Colleague had also swapped a shift with me for Monday. So, I'll be starting at 6:30am.. but like I mentioned before, all week I haven't been sleeping well. Got less than 5 hours last night. Either waking up an hour to 2 after falling asleep, or been awake before 5am.
Yes, my class hosted over 30 refugees for a museum visit and lunch. It was much more chaotic than I imagined, but it was nice to give refugees a spot to relax and enjoy the day.
I hope that you sleep beautifully tonight. @Jaeteuk
Thinking about you on this Saturday and hoping that it is more peaceful. @Jaeteuk
Yesterday was a sad day. My parents visited a lady that I also know from the church we attended together 10 years ago. Her health had been deteriorating the past several months, in and out of the hospital. My mum said she left an hour after they visited her.
As for myself, I haven't been as productive as I had planned for this weekend, as I tried to catch some sleep instead. I work an early morning shift tomorrow, as colleague swapped with me. Which means I'll have to go bed early tonight. One more week of work, and I'll be off for the first 2 weeks of May. Can't wait for the time off!~
@bestVase7265
It is sad when people get sick. They do really appreciate visits though.
Glad to hear that you have the beginning of May off. I will still be heavily working and grading, but we are going to squeeze in just a few days for a quick trip out of state to watch my niece graduate from college. It should be good to have different scenery at least. @Jaeteuk
Actually it is just May since we graduate students in mid May here. Classes are done May 12 and then the week after that is all grading. Unluckily that is also when we are going away. So I will have to grade in little spurts. Hopefully it will get all done.
Good luck with your busy week.@Jaeteuk
Not in a good mood today. Was told that I shouldn't be doing certain things.. I have my reasons, and it's not even a right or wrong thing.. but, I can't say anything about it because my reasons are based on personal preference. Also, I changed something for easier access than what the other colleague did, and was told that it's no good. I like things neat and organized, in just one day (colleague requested to swap shifts with me yesterday), our supplies was a mess, and things I had hidden in places were gone! Hidden, but there for a purpose. It's difficult and upsetting when I'm the only perfectionist and the others don't care.
There are forms we take care of, and before I sign them off, I always look for 2 things that might be missing. Colleagues who sign them off, take it for granted that those 2 things are filled properly. Today, I saw one form that had 1 thing missing, signed off by colleague. But, I won't say anything about it. If the staff we're dropping it off to notices it missing, they'll call back for it. But little things like this, the others just don't take notice and I'm the only meticulous worker. It's so frustrating and upsetting.
I always feel better when I hear from you and is always looking forward to your response/opinions/perspectives. I'm wondering, if you're okay with it, I would like to make a space just for the two of us to stay connected. I see it throughout 7 Cups, where the title is aimed for the specific members, asking other people to not reply or post in it. Please tell me your thoughts of this idea.
@bestVase7265
Sure, if you can figure out how to send me something through some type of private connection on here that would be great. I would respond as soon as I saw something. I can never figure out how to establish something like that myself.
I know how meticulous you are. I am pretty detail oriented myself. It can be hard when other people aren't like that. I kind of figure that their brains just work differently and perhaps they bring different things to the table than I do. But much of my work isn't a joint project like yours is. @Jaeteuk
I look forward to it. @Jaeteuk
My biological clock is still set as waking up early. I went to bed before 10pm last night, and I was awake by 4:30am. At least I got my 6hrs in. I tried going back to sleep around 6am and just woke up at 7am. So long for having my alarm set at 8am. I guess that is the latest time to wake up, if ever I can be asleep later than 6am without waking up. I think I woke up briefly around 1am too, was debating whether or not I should wake up to use the bathroom or not.
