Hi guys, hope this is the right section. Anyways I'm posting here because I have struggled with a depression since I was 12 or so. I started meds when I was 18 but they didn't help me so I stopped taking them. I've found a way to keep me feeling calm and collected and not anxious all the time, but what I still struggle with is bottling up my emotions. I have a lot going on with my Dad and it really bothers me and so I think about it often and then something will happen and I'll get upset and for some reason I can't shake it. I get quiet. I can't talk and I just become bleh. My girlfriend and I just broke up over this and I really want to change and be able to express myself more I just don't know good ways how. Please please help me

Hey, I believe you are on the right section. I want to start off by saying thank you for posting your thoughts. I know it takes courage to be open and honest about how you feel, esspecially as a person who has a tough time with expressing your thoughs. I as well am a person who is also struggles with bottling up emotions and feeling anxious, so its great to see other people talk about it on here. It makes me feel less alone. Second, I'm sorry about your relationship regarding your Dad and your significant other. I know that must be hard for you.

Anways, I relate to some of the things you were saying. I have a very hard time talking to people in general, and for me its very hard to express how I feel. I have been that way for while, probably a few years. One the best and effective ways to release your inner feelings/thoughts is to write them down. In order to tell anyone your thoughts, I feel one the best ways, is to see your thoughts. Try to understand what your thoughts are and how they make you feel. I have tried this method and its one of the ones that work for me. You don't have to write a deep, long, poetic piece of writing. It could be least than a paragraph, a sentence. It doesn't matter as long as you are expressing yourself and not bottling your emotions. You can use an old notebook, buy yourself a journal, or even type it on your computer or phone. Its all depends on the easiest method for you.

I'm sorry this is so long, I hope this helps you release some of your emotions and be able to express them more. (Of course, the best way is talking to someone, a friend, family member, or even me. I'm available some time in the evening.)

Stay safe,
