Hello everyone!

The wonderful @RumpleSteeleSkin and I decided it would be a nice idea to collaborate together and create a cheerful conversation regarding self-care and depression!

Image result for self care

Mental illnesses impact our everyday lives and can often leave us feeling hopeless and alone. Were here today to answer and ask some questions to brighten your day, even in the slightest.

Here are some facts for you:-

1 in 4 people struggle with a mental illness at some point in their life. Depression is the predominant mental health problem worldwide, followed by anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

20% of teenagers may experience a mental health problem in any given year.

50% of mental health problems are established by the age of 14 and 75% by the age of 24.

You most certainly are NOT alone.

Lets talk about it and break the stigma surrounding mental health! laugh

Before we begin the discussion, Id like to check-in with everyone! Instead of putting a number against how you feel, try and put it into words! Were here to support you the best we can. How are you doing today? heart

1): Would you be able to tell us what mental illnesses you are currently struggling with/have struggled with in the past?

2). We know having mental illnesses makes us struggle a lot sometimes. Doing simple things such as: self-care, eating and sleeping can really be difficult to do. What are some things you struggle with?

3). Now that we have identified our struggles in day to day life regarding our mental illnesses, can you think of some things which you can enjoy and manage? (For example: feeding your pets, listening to music, watching a film, having a bath/shower)

4). Self care can look and mean different to each and every one of us. How would you define self-care? And, how often do you do it?

5). We often forget to do something for self-care when we are helping out friends and family. Sometimes we are so selfless that we dont look after ourselves! Do you have any thoughts on how to balance out caring for others but also treating yourself right? (An example would be: Turning your phone off for an hour and doing some reading, going for a walk alone to get some fresh air, etc.)

6). Could you list 5 different things you could do for self-care?

7). Speaking of friends and family, the often offer support and kind gestures towards us on a regular basis. What is the best compliment you have ever received? How did it make you feel? (For example: You look great today! or… Your smile really brightens my day.)

8). So we talked about what are mental illnesses are, your struggles, self-care and family/friends. Now lets try to look at the positive side of things. Is there something you do that helps you cope with your mental illness? (scrapbooking, making music, art and crafts)

9). Sometimes we find ourselves struggling to look to the future as our focus is all on our present day to day lives and trying to fight off our mental illnesses the best we can. Despite this, have you been thinking about making a goal for yourself, do you already have one? If so, what little steps are you taking to achieve that goal? (For example: Get good grades at school, have a more positive outlook on life, etc.)

10). Weve talked a lot about self-care and making a change to your life to try and make yourself feel better, despite battling your mental illnesses. Could you share one thing that you may try out in the next few days to see if it improves your mood? What effects do you think may occur when you do this?

Thank you so much for reading this thread, let us know your answers to the questions in the reply section. Wed absolutely love to hear your responses. heart

In addition, do you have a question youd like to ask others to answer? (For example: How long have you been struggling with mental illnesses? Or.. What is something that you are thankful for today)

Lets get this discussion going! laugh

For any members of the forum team: Both of us really enjoyed this collaboration and would love to do more in the future. If youd like to help out or have any ideas, PM either of us!

Hiya! ^-^

I'm glad to hear you're doing okay!

Anxiety and depression come hand in hand with each other, I struggle with both of them too. I'm proud of you for staying strong for 5 years though, that is a massive achievement. Sleeping, taking care of your kids, self-care and maintaining your house can certainly prove difficult for a lot of people. It's good to know that you keep persevering regardless of your mental illnesses though!

Singing, listening to music and watching movies are all amazing ways to treat yourself and spend some time on yourself. I understand how you feel about being a caregiver to children and an older woman, you might not always have the time you need to do something for self-care. However, I must stress the importance of setting aside even five minutes to sit in the quiet or do something for yourself to help reduce your anxiety and depression!

Aw, let me reassure you that you make somebody smile and are loved by a lot of people. You aren't alone and I will always be here to talk to if you need help and support. I'd suggest having a look at this website to make you smile today: https://www.complimentgenerator.co.uk/ It's such a nice website! laugh

Cleaning out your storage garage might heplp you out and give you the hope that you need. Stay strong, sweetie. Hope you have a happy weekend, wishing you the best!! heart

1. Would you be able to tell us what mental illnesses you are currently struggling with/have struggled with in the past?

depression, ptsd, BPD

2. We know having mental illnesses makes us struggle a lot sometimes. Doing simple things such as: self-care, eating and sleeping can really be difficult to do. What are some things you struggle with?

I find it hard just to get out of bed, make my coffee, and do my normal routine. My animals dont even make me motivated. I really dont wanna talk to no one or even do my things on here. I just lurk alot

3. Now that we have identified our struggles in day to day life regarding our mental illnesses, can you think of some things which you can enjoy and manage?

I still love to Netflix, and at times play with my animals, I love to write things how I am feeling to encourage others, I still work

4. Self care can look and mean different to each and every one of us. How would you define self-care? And, how often do you do it?

Self care to me means things I do for me to keep up day to day. Or not to fully crash. I say anything that is a positive for my mind or body is self care

5. We often forget to do something for self-care when we are helping out friends and family. Sometimes we are so selfless that we dont look after ourselves! Do you have any thoughts on how to balance out caring for others but also treating yourself right?

I think I have trouble in this area. I love to help and support people or just do little things for them to laugh or just to smile. But I do try and self care for me many times through the week. Maybe sleeping in ater then 7am and not take up any chats. Or make me breakfast. I also love to put positive things in my feed. But I hav not found that total balance in this area yet.

6. Could you list 5 different things you could do for self-care?

1. Take a much needed bath with candles and netflix 2. Start back doing my crafts 3, go on more walks with my dogs 4. Go get my hair permed and dyed 5. Let a listener listen and support me for once

7. Speaking of friends and family, the often offer support and kind gestures towards us on a regular basis. What is the best compliment you have ever received? How did it make you feel?

I think well hmm...I dont take compliments very well tbh, but one that sticks out is "Im a beautiful person in my heart"

8. So we talked about what are mental illnesses are, your struggles, self-care and family/friends. Now lets try to look at the positive side of things. Is there something you do that helps you cope with your mental illness?

I try hard to reach out to at least 1 person I trust and just let them know how I am. That way I know Im not so deep into isolation

9. Sometimes we find ourselves struggling to look to the future as our focus is all on our present day to day lives and trying to fight off our mental illnesses the best we can. Despite this, have you been thinking about making a goal for yourself, do you already have one? If so, what little steps are you taking to achieve that goal?

1. to pay my bills on time-gotta stay focused on that

2. To keep in contact with 1 person even tho I am withdrawn and isolated

3. Dont call into work no matter how Im feeling unless I trully am sick

10. Weve talked a lot about self-care and making a change to your life to try and make yourself feel better, despite battling your mental illnesses. Could you share one thing that you may try out in the next few days to see if it improves your mood? What effects do you think may occur when you do this?

Im going to try and do more positive things for me.

@RumpleSteeleSkin

Heya! This is really interesting to read, Rumple. ^-^

Depression, PTSD and BPD must be really difficult to deal with. I've only personally dealt with depression (am still currently on the route to recovery) and can really understand how horrible at times it can be.

I can notice your struggles with getting up in the morning and getting on with daily life. However, I am proud of you for getting through every single tough day so far. That, is something to be happy about.

Waching Netflix, playing with your animals and writing how you feel are all great ways of having fun and cheering yourself up!

I think that you trying to do more positive things for yourself will really boost your mood and help you out. I'm glad you've taken the first step to making life a little easier for yourself.

As the quote goes.. "Self care isn't just important, it's necessary." heart

1. Currently struggling with severe major depression and anxiety (mix of panic disorder and social phobia, although I don't have panic attacks anymore). My depression is what I struggle with the most.

2. There are times when I feel so tired I don't feel like taking a shower. I feel like sleeping way more than is normal - meaning I prefer to be in bed for like 15 hours and get as much sleep as I can out of that. Usually I get a lot and it helps me feel more normal. (I'm told by my therapist that my medications are causing this but who knows, have to ask my psychiatrist). Luckily I only work 3 days a week, but mornings are killers for me. On those days I definitely do not feel like getting up out of bed. And when I do I am miserable until about an hour or two into my workday.

3. I enjoy listening to music, watching videos on YouTube, watching animal webcams (goats, puppies), participating on 7cups and reading my feed, going for a walk, going to the park (my happy place besides my bed!), painting.

4. Self care is doing things to recharge my batteries and be more at peace and in the present moment. I do it as often as I think to. I try to do mindfulness at least once a week. Try to go on a walk at least once a week but that's difficult with the winter weather :(

5. I would love to tune-out from my computer early and do some reading each night. I don't know usually it doesn't work out but I could try.

6. Mindfulness, going for a walk, taking a bath (although the water bill is high I don't want to make it higher for my dad that's why I take showers :(, painting, yoga

7. Best compliment was from my mom or dad saying I'm beautiful. That made me really happy. Plus my dad keeps saying I'm a "genius" which is an exaggeration but it makes me feel good nonetheless :)

8. Mindfulness, being on 7cups helps, talking to listeners

9. My goal is to get a better part-time job for myself and I'm applying for jobs and going on interviews.

10. I'd like to try getting off my computer early and reading. I think it'll have a calming affect on me before bed and will help me sleep better maybe. And it'll make me feel good to get back to reading. I have a huge to-read list to get through.

Both depression and anxiety come hand in hand with one another. They can be extremely difficult to deal with. I too can relate. I'd suggest reaching out to somebody if you are struggling! So from what you've said about your struggles, you find having a good sleeping schedule difficult. There is an amazing self-help guide on that here: https://bit.ly/2nh8qEz Also, getting up in the morning is a struggle. I like to remind myself that "today is just one day" and all anyone can ask of you is to try your best!

I love listening to music also! What sort of bands/artists do you listen to? In addition, taking a walk to clear your head is a great idea. You can do all of the things you listen when you're feeling down in order to try and boost your mood. Also, if you're finding it difficult to get up in the morning, you could remind yourself of all of the nice things you could do once you've gotten up! How does that sound?

Your definition is a wonderful way of putting self-care. It reminded me of the growth path activity for "how to fill your tank" It is good that you try to do something for yourself each week, even if the weather is a bit chilly to go for a walk sometimes! Trying to close your computer off and doing some reading is a great distraction and really gives you some time to imagine things and get away from the online world. If you find it difficult, you could always have a specific time which you set aside during the day to read (even if it's just for 5-10 minutes!)

Awh haha those compliments are so true and sweet! It's nice to know that you feel loved by others around you. Applying for jobs can be very nerveracking but I'd suggest showing your true colours because you're awesome! (you know that, right? cheeky)

Wishing you the best with your hopes and goals for the future; make sure to let us know how it goes. *huggles* heart Thanks for sharing! laugh

@blossombreathe Thanks for the great tips. I didn't think to simply set aside time for reading haha. I always have other stuff I want to do so it can be hard.

I like folk/blues music, at least that's the radio I listen to. I have a bunch of artists I listen to on spotify, too many to list. I listen to the radio in the car regaularly and anytime I hear a good song I add it to my list :)

First thank you so much for participating in thissmiley Im glad to hear that you dont struggle with panic attacks-but depression is a handful of itself. And to remain motivated or just doing certain things are to big of a task at times.

Me to on feeling very tired, knowing I had a nights sleep. A shower is well not on my list. OMG I hate so hate the mornings. I have to set my alarm at least 1 hour ahead of the time I do need to get up. I am very lucky to have coffee in my life. Maybe it is a good idea to talk with your doc on your medications and see which ones maybe keeping you from having energy.

I love to see all the things you like to do especailly the animal stuff. I find that those things do help change my mood alot. Im glad you have all those things to do to feel a bit better. haha happy place beside your bedsmiley

Love your meaning on self care. "Self care is doing things to recharge my batteries and be more at peace and in the present moment." That is a very good meaning. And that you try and do mindfulness and a walk weekly. To try and keep things in a routine does help alot with depression I think.

How about we both work on turning our computers off and doing something more productive? Id love to do this as well-but well I find being here does help my moods but also it is a distraction to my real life. aaawww that your mom and dad said you were "beautiful" That even gets me a bit weepy for you. I find that the dad in my life does say awesome things to me even tho I dont feel its right or deserve it. But to have "someone" say those good things to us does helpheart

I so like your goal of finding and also "doing action" in finding a part time job. I do have a full time job and I believe for the most part it helps me to not get so sick into my depression. I do think you will learn to schedule the amount of time on your computer. Maybe set an alarm to help you on this. I hope your list on reading things you can start on soonsmiley

Hey, I'm better today.

1. Depression.

2. I have problems leaving bed. I would sleep all day or just lie looking at the ceiling if I could. At night I get nightmares. I don't take care of myself, have irregular eating patterns, sometimes I don't eat at all because I don't feel hungry. No motivation, no passion, you could say I jump between complete numbness and hurt with some short rest periods. Because of that I can't keep up with my university work and job, missing many days due to lower mood.

3. Most of the days I enjoy sweets, tea and music with genre dependant on my mood. I also like poetry and animated movies.

4. Self-care for me is acceptance and love for who you are just because you are, and showing this love through some simple but caring steps for your wellbeing like mindulness or taking care of physical appearance because it makes you feel better. Unfortunately, for the last few months I'm in self-hate period and it's more possible for me to hurt myself than to do something kind. I try to drink water and validate my feelings every day, though, sometimes I may even take care of my hair.

5. Maybe that would be a good idea to do something nice for yourself for every kind thing you did for others. I don't really know, I'm rather bad at self-care, though I'm trying to accept myself and improve.

6. - drink enough water
- eat at least two regular, healthy meals per day
- go for a short walk even on bad days
- listen to theta waves before sleep
- have a gratefulness journal

7. In the past I didn't receive many compliments from my family seeing as we weren't very close but some time ago I was told by my dad one thing that made my day: "I'm proud of you". I'm not sure if it's a compliment but hearing it after all these years meant much to me.

8. I write poetry and during my worst times instead of hurting myself I try to get things from my emergency box - mostly favourite blanket, tea, sweets and something that reminds me of my family.

9. For now my goal is to survive long enough to see my family on Easter. Afterwards... I'm not sure. I've been rather bad last few weeks, so it was hard to think positively about future. I would like to pass this year at university though.

10. Well... Maybe I could try to stop biting inside of my mouth. It has become kind of habit but it later hurts in that annoying way. I''m thinking that chewing gum can help during the day but I have no idea what to do with biting myself during sleep.

Thank you for participating in thissmileyIm glad that today you are having a better day. I do so understand with the hard struggles you have with depression and just trying to live and make it that one day. Things seem impossible. But someone how we do. OMG I so love sweets to even tho Im a diabetic and all. Moods determine on that. I so love the definition you gave for self care. It can look so different to many here. I love that you hit on "acceptance" on the love for you. It isnt easy to make you look great on the outside even tho the inside is all torn apart. Nih the only thing we can keep doing is trying over and over and learning new things on what helps us. Im going to try and do what you mentioned-for every kind thing I do for someone I need to do 1 for meheart

1): Would you be able to tell us what mental illnesses you are currently struggling with/have struggled with in the past?

When I was a pre-teen/early teen I used to struggle a lot with panic disorder and night terrors. I believe that is the reason I got started on anxiety medications. While I don't really have panic attacks like I used to anymore, I still suffer from both general anxiety and depression, and have been on at least three different medications for them. Starting in high school, a therapist told me I had a form of ADHD (predominantly inattentive type), so I was on medication for until my sophomore year of college. However, that is a type of disorder that I have been able to sort of 'outgrow', meaning it doesn't affect me to a considerable amount for me to think of it is some disorder I have.

2). We know having mental illnesses makes us struggle a lot sometimes. Doing simple things such as: self-care, eating and sleeping can really be difficult to do. What are some things you struggle with?

I definitely struggle with doing basic self care things, mostly related to hygeine. I actually really hate admitting it becuase it makes me feel like a gross person. There are many days where I don't feel like showering or brushing my teeth or visiting/talking with anybody becuase I simply don't have the energy. When I get extremely anxious, like really bad anxiety, I cannot eat anything at all. When I'm extremely depressed I sleep alot.

3). Now that we have identified our struggles in day to day life regarding our mental illnesses, can you think of some things which you can enjoy and manage? (For example: feeding your pets, listening to music, watching a film, having a bath/shower)

I really like listening to music, and doing small things like getting up and stretching, doing some short meditation, taking a walk outside. I did get into the habit of going to the gym once a week with my mom, so that's nice. I also have plants that I take care of and water. For some reason, even though I have a hard time with basic self-care/hygiene stuff, I have no problem doing house chores or cleaning around the house. xD

4). Self care can look and mean different to each and every one of us. How would you define self-care? And, how often do you do it?

Self-care is simply taking care of your needs, both emotionally and physically. Self-care to me means basic things like eating meals, and other more abstract things like being mindful and thinking about what you mean to the world. I do think that I do a little self-care every day, obviously, like sleeping, eating, cleaning, showering, calling family or friends, chatting with online friends, daydreaming, taking care of myself when I'm sick, etc.

I'm going to answer this question a little differently, becuase I do get distracted away from self care, but not normally because of friends/family. I do actually have a problem with spending too much time listening to music. Sometimes I get so absorbed with listening while daydreaming that I can sometimes be late to family or friend outings. Errands that I really need to get done that day often either don't get done or they get done later than I'd like. Basically, getting lost in music can make me very slow getting myself around in the mornings. I've been trying to find ways to not listen to so much music, such as possibly deleting music listening apps such as YouTube and Spotify from my phone. I guess I can try designating certain times of the day for music listening, but I found that I can have very little self control lol.

6). Could you list 5 different things you could do for self-care?

Eating breakfast every day, making sure I take my important medicine on time, going outside and walking when I need to, curling up and reading, brewing and drinking some good tea.

7). Speaking of friends and family, the often offer support and kind gestures towards us on a regular basis. What is the best compliment you have ever received? How did it make you feel? (For example: You look great today! or… Your smile really brightens my day.)

I don't know if I can think of any "best" compliments, but I do remember one of my friends smiling at me and saying I was very funny haha. I've also gotten compliments on my hair (which I personally find a giant mess all the time), and my smile.

8). So we talked about what are mental illnesses are, your struggles, self-care and family/friends. Now lets try to look at the positive side of things. Is there something you do that helps you cope with your mental illness? (scrapbooking, making music, art and crafts)

Hanging out with good friends, baking, reading, and writing are all good ways that helps me cope with anxiety and depression. They're mostly all distractions but they end up working. It's actually very hard for me to cope with these disorders when I'm alone, though, which is probably why I tend to spend quite a lot of time chatting with people online.

Right now I have a goal of getting a good job in my field. I'm taking the steps to do that by applying for smaller, temporary positions that will give me more experience to hopefully move up to bigger types of work. There is a thought that in the future (after I have steady income and stuff like that) to go on to graduate school. I also have a goal of not spending so much time online. I want to hike and camp more. I want to make more friends in my hometown and go out to explore more places. I want to become a more spiritual person.

10). Weve talked a lot about self-care and making a change to your life to try and make yourself feel better, despite battling your mental illnesses. Could you share one thing that you may try out in the next few days to see if it improves your mood? What effects do you think may occur when you do this?

Probably drink some water when I first wake up and stretch. I also want to not reach for my phone when I first wake up because then that just gets me distracted and delays my day more. As for improving my mood, I have a general sense of emptiness most days, and it's scary because I'm starting to have a hard time telling which emotion I'm really feeling whenever I do feel something. Does that even make sense?

MiMi thank you so much for doing these questionssmiley

Thank you for sharing on your illnesses. I see you too have issues with anxiety-me too. Also my depression mainly gets me at times but not as much no more. awww please dont feel embarrassed or "gross" due to you not having the energy to wash or brush ur teeth etc. Right now you are a powerful person just admitting it and sharing it openly here. You are being real with your struggles. -hugs-

haha what you just shared on enjoying and can do. I too have plants I do water and tend to. Something about my hands in the cool dirt and the smell of the dirt it helps me focus. Also I to try and get out 1-2 times a week and enjoy a walk with some music or some mindfulness on my phone. I like your sharing on what self care means to you. Alot of us forget about our mental well being and only think of keeping clean and cleaning our house. This Im going to take from you and put into my brain "being mindful and thinking about what you mean to the world."

I liked the way you answered #5. Sometimes caring for loved ones or friends is less due to some distractions we do have. I see you really do love music. Yes maybe a plan on how much time you listen is good. I find setting an alarm helps me with things I like to do to much during the day. Like the 5 things you are going to do to improve self caresmiley

I am so encouraged this morning by your post here. Im going to try more on the time limits on things I do to much that are a bit inflicting on things I need to do. The more water intake I need to do more. I dont drink enough but stick to coffee and pop. Also not grabbing my phone when I first wake up is a new thing to try. When I do get to my phone then I see things I need to do online....so tomorrow morning Im gonna not have my phone by me but maybe charge it in my bathroom.

Again thank you for participating I got so much from what you sharedsmiley

1): Would you be able to tell us what mental illnesses you are currently struggling with/have struggled with in the past? depression and anxiety

2). We know having mental illnesses makes us struggle a lot sometimes. Doing simple things such as: self-care, eating and sleeping can really be difficult to do. What are some things you struggle with? Sleep could be pretty hard sometimes

5). We often forget to do something for self-care when we are helping out friends and family. Sometimes we are so selfless that we dont look after ourselves! 1. I am currently struggling with depression, social anxiety, and PTSD.

2. Some things I struggle with are things like forming relationships/friendships with others. Even just meeting new people is tough. I also struggle to get motivated to do things that I know have to be done, as I'd rather sit and watch movies than clean my house, for example.

3. Taking a short walk outside, listening to music, and writing are all things that I can enjoy doing even when I am struggling.

4. I would define self-care as doing something that makes you feel better without taking time away from your responsibilities. For example, watching an episode or two of a TV show you like can be self-care because you're doing something you enjoy, but binge-watching an entire season because you can't work up the motivation to work on an assignment or apply for jobs is not, since it is taking away from something more important. Easier said than done of course- getting motivated when you have depression is very tough- but it's also important. Similarly, taking a shower if you struggle with getting motivated to shower/bathe frequently is self-care, because you generally feel at least a bit better afterwards, even if it's hard to do in the moment.

5. I would suggest setting aside some time each week for self-care/"me time" and try to commit to it. For example, saying that every Thursday at 7 pm you will go for a 20 minute walk outside. If someone asks you to do something for them during that scheduled time, you can just say that you had already made plans and won't be able to help them. It's not a lie, after all. Having a schedule also gives you something to look forward to, which can help improve your mood as well.

6. Dancing, writing, playing a video game, dressing up in nice clothing, and talking to family/friends just for the sake of enjoying their company are all things that I could do for self-care. Dancing could be swapped for some other physical activity, and writing could be swapped for a different creative activity (such as playing an instrument, acting out a skit, drawing, etc.) depending on what you prefer.

7. Someone once told me that I look cute when I smile. This made me feel good, because my upper lip hangs down lower than it should, so it covers my top set of teeth when I smile, which I think looks weird, so to have someone tell me it looked cute made me feel a lot better.

8. Writing and dancing are things that help me cope with my mental illnesses. I am focusing on a specific task instead of focusing on negative thoughts.

9. My goal is to have better relationships in life. I can take a step towards this goal by asking a coworker or someone I see on a frequent basis if they want to spend time with me outside of work.

10. This sounds silly, but I'm going to try dressing in nice clothes and going out in public. I'm really self-conscious and don't like being the centre of attention, so this will be hard at first, but I'm hoping that I realize I don't always have to blend into the background.

@quietDime4559

Dime hi-thank you for participating in this smiley I too have anxiety, depression and PTSD. With these 3 forming healthy relationships Ive seen can be very difficult-but not impossible to have. I too struggle a bit with motivation outside of my work and stuff on here and I so love to Netflix 24/7 and nothing else. Kinda like a bubble only for me that is safe. I like how you explained self care. This can look and mean so differently to many. I would like to share to please browse the motivational forum area on here and there is alot of things there that maybe can help you with motivationsmiley

When someone gives us a true compliment sure does make our insides even smile. I dont ever go by what someone looks like-but look past that and learn to get to know themheartWOW I think writing and dancing are some great things to do when trying to focus on trying to make the day good. Those 2 things are something you can express yourself alot. I love your goal about having better relationships. And that you set an "action" plan on getting this goal started. Good luck to youwink OMG on the goal of dressing nicer and how it makes you uncomfortable is so me. I hate dressie cloths or anything restricting- so joggers and a t-shirt is usually me. I want to share that you can do this. I feel your positivness and wanting to do all this for you. Im rooting for youyesheart

@blossombreathe

Hey Im feeling great today!

1) I have disturbance of emotions a type of depression. Thats all i know and i really dont wnat to accept it cause from the time i believed it everything went so miserable.

2) I struggle on being focused when im studying or sometimes when i watch or ead something. Also i sometimes let my emotions and feelings win my wanting. (for example i might want to go to my basketball training but bc of feeling bad i wont go)

3) a.Being around with animals b.Taking a bath c.Watching videos on youtube

4) Self care for means taking care of yourself and your body. I try to give back to others cause thats make me happy. Also when i have money i go shopping cause i enjoy doing that. I try a lot to keep my body in shape by eating healthy and exercise or go for a walk.

5) Not sure, But i saw your examples and what i can tell you is that most of the times Im going for a walk alone,1 bc i need it and 2 bc i now dont have friends to do that.

6) I can list 2 things for now; a.Having fun b.Being positive

7) I dont really remember but i like when my dad is calling me a princess or generally when my fam and friends are telling me that they love me. It makes me feel that I mean something to someone Im not alone.

8) Im writing on my diary or I message my pschycologist

9) My main goal and dream is to work in adidas. To do that I have to pass on university so thats the first step and everything else are gonna come!

10) Well im gonna do something I always try to do and thats focusing on whats important at this time of my life and also be positive! The iumportant thing at this time of my life is studying and i really believe that if i write good on my finals and pass on uni I will be more confident with myself. And being positive like having a positive attitude is all you can do when you fight with depression.

Thanks a lot for doing that. Sharing each one of us our story might help someone out there! <3

I'm doing fine at the moment.

1) I am currently struggling with anxiety and depression.

2) The biggest things I struggle with overall is having motivation to do things. Most of the time I just force myself to do things, even if it's things I enjoy.

3) I enjoy(ed) a lot of things, but my two main hobbies are watching anime and playing video games.

4) I define self-care as just simply taking care of myself and taking the proper time to relax when I can. I try to practice self-care on a regular basis.

5) In my opinion, enjoying company enforces self-care. However, when I'm not in the mood to hang out with people, I just do whatever I want when I'm alone and express how I feel to my friends/family when I don't want to do things with them.

6) 1. Taking the time to meditate/relax 2. Taking a shower daily 3. Being positive 4. Spending some time socializing 5. Having fun

7) My boyfriend's friend said that I was an angel and that made me feel kinda confused at first (since I'm not used to taking compliments) but I slowly became appreciative.

8) I don't like to do a lot of creative things, so coping is a bit difficult for me. I'm still a little bit lost on how to cope with depression. For anxiety, I exercise to relieve nervous energy. For now, music (any type of music I like) helps me with depression.

9) One main goal I have is to get good grades in school. Right now, I maintain good studying habits and just plan everything out accordingly and it seems to work.

10) One thing I've been trying out lately is just trying to spend more time with friends. I've been isolating myself a lot due to school and depression, so I believe that it will improve my mood, even a little bit.

A general question I have is: how do you cope with depression? I'm not a really creative person so I just rely on distractions and music for the most part.

How are you doing today? heart

I'm okay. A little numb.

1): Would you be able to tell us what mental illnesses you are currently struggling with/have struggled with in the past?

Depression and anxiety.

2). We know having mental illnesses makes us struggle a lot sometimes. Doing simple things such as: self-care, eating and sleeping can really be difficult to do. What are some things you struggle with?

Cleaning, studying, going out, sometimes eating too.

3). Now that we have identified our struggles in day to day life regarding our mental illnesses, can you think of some things which you can enjoy and manage? (For example: feeding your pets, listening to music, watching a film, having a bath/shower)

Listening to music, watching Kdrama/movies, writing, reading and meditating.

4). Self care can look and mean different to each and every one of us. How would you define self-care? And, how often do you do it?

Self-care for me is to cherish yourself and it can go from simple daily 10 minutes meditation to regular long walks with your pet, for example. I usually do some skin care, warm baths, meditation, sometimes I just watch Asmr videos to relax, which kind of makes me feel like I'm taking care of myself, and that I'm doing good at that.

When I have time for meditation I inform whoever is at home that I'm going to close my bedroom door for an hour and meditate.

6). Could you list 5 different things you could do for self-care?

- Meditation

- Music

- YouTube videos

- Writing (having an intimate time with my book, seeing the progress I'm making helps me feel better)

- Dancing (I don't do it all the time but when I do I feel energetic and proud of my body).

7). Speaking of friends and family, the often offer support and kind gestures towards us on a regular basis. What is the best compliment you have ever received? How did it make you feel? (For example: You look great today! or… Your smile really brightens my day.)

"Sometimes the house feels empty when you're not around, mimicking baby voices or singing off-tune."

8). So we talked about what are mental illnesses are, your struggles, self-care and family/friends. Now lets try to look at the positive side of things. Is there something you do that helps you cope with your mental illness? (scrapbooking, making music, art and crafts)

Writing (oops, I've already mentioned it in previous answers lol)

I'm currently struggling to put a "particular" goal first. The small, ambitious side of my brain finds everything important and interesting and the big, depressed side stops it from setting a goal and actually working on it.
But since the only thing I'm good at is getting good grades in uni, that is what I've been doing, but then when it comes to looking for a job in the future, I don't think the grades will help.

10). Weve talked a lot about self-care and making a change to your life to try and make yourself feel better, despite battling your mental illnesses. Could you share one thing that you may try out in the next few days to see if it improves your mood? What effects do you think may occur when you do this?

I think I'll start with a small thing like going out alone.

Thank you very much for this awesome thread! <3
