Children
Just a curious question, knowing that you have a mental health condition, would you still choose to have children?
I don
@MangoPancake ok, this is how it is for me: I have schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, eating disorder and rheumatoid arthritis. I would NEVER consider having biological children, as I don't want them to have what I have or suffer how I have suffered. So the easy answer is: never. I'm going to have kids at all.
@EvilRegalsReadToo Hi there, I relate to what you said. I have depression, OCD and eating disorder and it kills me to think of how my future kids might have to struggle everyday. I know that there isnt a hard and fast rule as to how genetics work with mental illnesses but its a risk I dont think Im ready to take.
But I also see how it is on the other end, that people with mental health conditions can also be amazing parents and their kids will not necessarily have the same conditions.
Its just something to consider, I guess. People around me (without mental illnesses) are telling me that its fine to have kids but Im actually scared for my future children. I grew up with a depressed parent so I know all too well what its like.
@MangoPancake I would also be afraid that a kid would copy my eatinghabbits. I wouldn't be able to live with that
@MangoPancake somehow a little funny, I grew up with a depressed mom myself!
Mental health problems run in my family, especially on my mom's side. My sister has told me before that she never wants to have children because she doesn't want to pass those genes down and bring more fucked up people into the world. Honestly, despite the fact that I don't want to have kids anyway just because I think they're a hassle and I don't know how to deal with them, I kinda agree with my sister lol
