Combatting Hopelessness! || @Istand4Peace and @blossombreathe Discussion
Hiya lovelies, I hope youre all doing well! :3
Me and the wonderful @Istand4Peace thought wed do a collaborative forum thread on feelings of hopelessness and how to combat it!
There are lots of different forms of hopelessness, these include:
Alienation - people may feel that they are somehow different, leaving them feeling unworthy of care and respect.
Forsakenness - people feel alone at their greatest time of need.
Uninspired - people may feel like there arent enough opportunities for them, or their role models are far ahead of them and there is no way they are going to be as good as them.
Powerless - people may feel like they arent in control, or as if they cannot make choices which will affect their life.
Oppression - feeling like you are being crushed and as if there is no way of gaining any control.
Doom - many people may experience this. Feeling as if there is no hope and that death is imminent. This can also be referred to as a sinking feeling which people can relate to when they are feeling suicidal.
Captivity - if you are physically not able to leave a certain situation, you may feel hopeless. Another feeling of captivity would be being trapped in your mind with warped thoughts and not being able to explain them in any way.
Helplessness - feeling as if you cannot do anything within your ability to help someone. For example, if there has been an incident which is beyond your control.
These feelings are very hard to control, especially if you dont recognise why you are feeling like this.
Have you experienced any of the above? Let us know!
Were going to list three different ways in which you could combat these feelings, there are many more out there, so please dont feel like these are the only options available!
Breaking the cycle - When were hopeless we tend to feel like we have no future and there is no hope left for us. These thoughts are often linked to things such as loneliness, depression and bipolarity.
Because of that we need to focus on our inner self instead of the externalities to give us hope. We shouldnt let our hope depend on getting a job or a significant other but rather focus on how we feel internally.
Once we understand that we should look for small things that we are grateful for, such as the coffee we got for breakfast or the greetings that our friends gave to us. We can also try to make things better for ourselves - treat yourself to a movie or tea and break this cycle!
Changing your habits - Changing some of our habits can go a long way in achieving hope - Things like mindfulness can help us separate our thoughts from our feelings. We should set achievable goals in smaller steps rather than going for a huge leap.
Social support (as offered by 7cups!) can also help a lot in combating it! Exercising and healthy eating can also make us better suited to dealing with it
Dealing with mental disorders - Mental disorders can often pull us down and stop our progress and lead to hopelessness. We should try and reach out for help where we can and also go for a therapist if possible
These guides can also be of help to you! https://www.7cups.com/supportGuides/selfHelpGuides.php
Thank you so much for reading this post, we do hope it has helped you in some way! Me and Peace loved working together on this, if youre interested in collaborating or want to know how it works, reach out to one of us!

I often feel hopeless, I find doing something for someone else can alieviate it a little bit.
That's interesting! It is true that if you help someone else out, your mood can be lifted. What a great tip for combatting hopelessness, thank you for sharing lovely! ❤

@blossombreathe
I guess I just feel that even though I might not have any hope, I can possibly help others to have hope.
Hey Breathe and Peace this is a fantastic article covering the issue or Hopelessness. It is very relevant here and am sure the tips would be helpful to combat those thoughts of hopelessness that depression brings along. Thank you for bringing this up.
I've dealt with all of these and sometimes I still feel helpless.
@astray Sometimes life can be really hard on us and it can stress us out and we just need a break
Taking a deep breath and escaping the norm - going out for a walk or a trip can really help in that ^-^
Today, I am grateful that you took the time to post this topic about hopelessness or rather feelings of hopelessness.
This must be a target point for me to work on because after reading a few lines my eyes started leaking.
It means a lot that you care enough to help others through this sensitive issue.
Addressing this seems overwhelming but I think I can address one thing at a time.
This will help me - thank you.
@OrangeYouGlad68
Showing gratefulness to yourself and others can be a great way to address this issue :3
I'm really glad that you managed to find a target to work on!
We're glad that someone was able to benefit from our post ^-^
And indeed taking things one at a time can help you through them! (set reachable goals :3 )
Glad and you're most welcome!
@Istand4peace
Hey Istand (not island),
I am going to take your advice and start a gratefulness/mindfulness journal. Could you help with writing prompts? There are going to be days when I draw a blank or just don't care and will need that push. Is there a website/blog that you would recommend?
Thanks!
The Captivity form of Hopelessness affects me the most in my life. So many times I am "stuck" in my mind with thoughts I can't explain. Definitely makes it more difficult to open up to people because how do you explain something you don't even understand?
Proud of all the warriors out there! Stay strong <3
@ApplePiney
But you try your best to express it in the end and are really loafly
Loaf you for that <3
@blossombreathe
Thanks for postig this valueable information. People need to be familiar with the various forms of hopelessness. In the past, I have advised my clients to do engage in all of the suggsted activities. Thanks again.
@ShawnWilsonLCSW

@Keanan
Glad that it did Keanan! :D
Thanks for article. Tomorrow, for the first time I am meeting with my physician to discuss my feelings of depression. This gives me a better framework for understanding and being better able to explain myself.
@Skywheeler
Glad that you'd be seeking help!
Hope that it all goes well for you and you manage to get the goodies that you deserve :o

@windflowers

@blossombreathe @Istand4peace
i agree, thank you so much for the information. knowing what you truly and specifically feel is part of the battle of overcoming it, right? allows you to think of clearer direction in what you should do to help yourself.
@CocoShell2310
Indeed because let's say if someone is tugging at your hair and you refuse to accept that it is happening you'll never act to change it! These things tug at our hair just like that and without accepting them we never see them and thus never act letting them get into our heads
Glad to hear you like it :3 Thank you for reading ^-^ *huggles* :3
