Deppresion making it hard to study
I have a massive midsemester chemistry exam this week, I'm trying my best to study but I'm feeling really depressed, and it's just making me frustrated because I'm scared I'm going to fail this but I can't focus on anything except how terrible I feel.
Some advice would be good.
I understand that feeling. I have tons of homework and depression makes it nearly impossible to focus. And of course the pressure of homework adds to the stress. My advice is to sit down and meditate for a few minutes; this has been shown to help depression and clear the mind. A common misconception is that meditation involves completely clearing the mind which is very hard, especially when you're depressed. You don't have to do this; just breathe, let yourself relax and let thoughts pass as they come without trying to force anything. The more you try not to think about something, the more you will think about it, and you will add to your stress by doing so. Just acknowledge the thought and let it wash over you like a wave, then let yourself relax.
