Depression is draining
I have depression and oh my god is it hard sometimes. Some days are so difficult. Any good day could turn upside down and my depression could ruin my entire day. It's so difficult when others around you don't understand how you feel. I've been told to "Get over it" so often it's hard to know who to turn to when I get very upset.
@SharkieDearest Hi! I hope you are doing alright. 💕 I'm sorry that people have told you to just "get over it" because that is definitely not an answer to get through depression. Sometimes people just don't understand unless it's something they are going through themselves and it definitely is not a reflection on you. Depression can be such a beast to deal with. Have you talked to a therapist or a doctor about it? You deserve to get the help you need! This link: https://www.helpguide.org/articles/depression/coping-with-depression.htm is a really great comprehensive list of ways to cope with depression that might be helpful! Please feel free to reach out to a Listener as well if you would like to talk more about how you're feeling! You can browse for a Listener here: https://www.7cups.com/BrowseListeners/ or you can join the general request queue and a Listener will be happy to speak with you there! I hope this helps and remember you will get through this!!💛
Hello, thank you for the links. I'm doing okay now, I wasn't in the best state of mind yesterday, I had a good cry then had some kitty cuddles. I'm looking into therapy down the line as it is something I needed for years. Thank you for checking on me. ❤
@SharkieDearest I am so glad to hear that you are feeling a little bit! Kitty cuddles fix everything! I hope you continue to feel good and you will be okay! Hang in there! 💙
Some days are so much easier than others. I've been doing better. Often times I'll have a few weeks of being fine then completely crash and burn. It can be so sudden and draining. But I'm doing everything I can to feel better when I get depressed.
@SharkieDearest Hmm that's interesting. Is there something that causes you to feel this way or is it just out of the blue? I'm sorry that it hits you like that ): I'm sure that's really hard.
Sometimes it's out of the blue. Other times there are causes. I lost both my parents before I was 17, then was taken in by a relative who ended up verbally and occasionally physically abusing me for the short period of time I was in her custody. Sometimes, small triggers or words will completely derail me. Other times it's just the memories.

Any time someone tells you to get over it, come here. We are not going to say that because we know that isn't possible. What kinds of things are you trying to do to care for yourself? @SharkieDearest
Hi there, I tend to take frequent walks, I like to do arts and crafts to try to cope. I'm okay most of the time, but sometimes it's just very hard.
You are doing the right things. Sometimes it is just hard. You are right. That is when it is good to just come on here and let loose with some of the frustration. It makes it much easier to manage. @SharkieDearest
How have things been? @SharkieDearest
They've been good. I've been a bit busy, but I've been feeling better. It's just hard sometimes.
It is hard sometimes. I am glad you are feeling at least a little better, @SharkieDearest
Homesickness hits all of us sometimes. Do you still have people that you chat with from your hometown?@SharkieDearest
Having fun and creating good memories is all that matters. @SharkieDearest
@SharkieDearest i have been told to get over it to. its easier said then done.
@SharkieDearest my depression gets bad sometimes and when it gets bad I can’t do anything about it and I hate it
@SharkieDearest I am so sorry to hear about everything that has happened and I can understand how difficult that must be to work through sometimes. I want you to know that you're doing a great job and we are always here for you. 💚 You will get through this! A rainbow always comes after a storm.
@SharkieDearest
That is sad to hear. I'm sorry to hear about your challenges and struggles. Do you just want to feel heard now? Or do you have another aim in mind?
@SharkieDearest Hello!❤️ I understand how difficult it must be for you, sometimes it's hard for people to understand how it feels to have depression, unless they've had firsthand experience with it, no doubt people in your life believe it to be common sadness, or feeling down in the dumps. But, you yourself know that to not be the case.
The sad thing about depression is that while you will have good days, it's still an uphill battle, especially when you have nobody to turn to. I wanted to let you know that our listeners here, including myself are always open to a chat if you feel like you're struggling, you can find us here: https://www.7cups.com/BrowseListeners/
Hey! I'm really sorry to hear that - especially the part about other people being unempathetic. It can get really exhausting really quickly when even just talking about it puts you at risk of encountering people who invalidate your feelings.
Just remember that people being unwilling to understand your emotions doesn't make them any less real. You deserve to be heard, and you deserve to be recognized for the effort you make every day you spend with this illness.
Keep up the good fight! ❤️
